The (first) commentaries here say that it would have much easier, if Germany had played England the next round ...

What I've seen in - especially - the second half: I agree. (But then there's still the psycholigal moment .... and that counts at least one goal for England)

You're dead right, Walter. Sweden are a very good team, that never give up. You may have some problems there.

As for our lot, apart from one or two, they need a bloody good dose of laxatives, and a Lamb Fahl to put some fire in their bellies.

Just saw some parts again: I really think, the English team doesn't have enough condition for 90 minutes.

No doubts: we will have more than just difficulties with Sweden!

Hurra Svenska!

I'm really glad Sweden scored that last-minute goal. If England had won this game it'd have been totally unfair, in the second half at least Sweden were clearly the better team. That last yellow card for a Swedish player was also undeserved.

Budapest mood was evenly divided btw - when England scored half the tent stood up and cheered, and when Sweden scored the other half stood up and cheered Razz (On "our bench" there was my Hungarian friend, me the Dutchman, and a Chilean guy, and we were all for Sweden. Aint the World Cup grand? Very Happy )

Osso, m'dear...

This has a meaning in England (and Australia) which is probably not exactly what you meant! Twisted Evil

Although I think Lord Ellpus has volunteered! And he supports England as well.

I was riffing on Steve's turnip association - a stretch, I admit. (Blithely unaware of other meanings..)

There's actually a great quote from a Billy Bragg song

'How can you lie there and think of England, when you don't even know who's on the team'

Billy does occasionally get the twin themes of sex and sport in the same song - 'Sexuality' springs to mind 'I had an uncle who once played - for Red Star Belgrade'

And Hinge gets his twin themes of sport and music in the same post.

Most Germans seem to have the number "15" Evil or Very Mad

Well, the English fans made some proper clearance in the old town of Cologne - seems, police and neighbourhood there didn't like it.

Perhaps you could enlighten me margo. I'm nowhere near as pessimistic as all the doom mongers regarding England. Rooney nearly scored a fantastic goal from a penetrating pass in from Beckham. Gerrards goal was excellent, and Cole's was sublime. We top the group and play a bunch of Cotopaxians next. England are well on course to progress to the quarter finals before getting knocked out.

Steve, I think that Margo was referring to the usage of the word "root".
