They were discussing on telly this morning that they should put blinkers on the Socceroos - otherwise those female Brazilian fans will leave them standing there dumbfounded -- and Brazil will clobber them!

PS 6th rugby loss in a row for England - they're now approaching Australia's record of last year! Bring on mighty Wales to give us a game - Ireland next week.

There was a great Ghanaian costume glimpsed yesterday- a man painted red with a great big vase on his head.

We deserved to win that game

I havent seen it ... but these are the stats for the game, from the BBC match report:

Possession
Italy 54% USA 46%

Shots on target
Italy 4 USA 3

Shots off target
Italy 6 USA 6

Corners
Italy 7 USA 3

Fouls
Italy 13 USA 22

---------------------------

Great pages the BBC puts up for matches, btw, high in both geek value and interactivity. Click the tabs to get:

- the BBC's match report
- video of the highlights
- a blow-by-blow account of the action as it happened
- stats like the above
- a photo gallery
- a gizmo you can use to rate each of the players yourself and compare how other users rated them
- a message board for your comments
- and another gizmo to do a fully-fledged "virtual replay".. for each of the vital moments you get a virtual camera view that you can rotate and zoom..

Damn.. Laughing

I was refering to the second goal which was taken back. But now that I've seen it played back, I can see why, even though it was close.

I am very familiar with the bbc site -- I use it to keep up while I'm at work. One thing to keep in mind as to those stats, though, is that we had 9 men to their 10 for the second half of the game. And that second goal was scored when we had only those nine men. But Italy had a lot of good chances too that our superb keeper managed to prevent from making it on the board. And they got their fair share of piss poor calls, too. At least two calls of offsides were nowhere to be seen on replay.

But it was a very exciting game and I am proud of the US performance.

No its definitely my tv. And I KNOW THE SCORE. So for a modest fee, I will tell you. If you want to buy my tv which is actually a time machine into the future, it will cost a lot more. Think I'll have a beer.

Its been a long time commin'
To silence all that drummin'
To show them that it wasn't just a dream

They've beaten Uraguay you know
And proven they're the best you know
The greatest team to wear the gold and green

Cahill's pounding down like a machine
Guus's scarin' strikers - lookin' mean
Kewel's gettin' tricky
Kennedy's not so picky
And Aloisi's just the best we've ever seen

Come on Aussie, come on, come on
Come on Aussie, come on

Night or day, they're out to make us proud
To keep our flags a-wavin' in the crowd
Even gettin' zeroes
They'll always be our heroes
And keep us singin' come on just as loud

Come on Aussie, come on, come on
Come on Aussie, come on
Come on Aussie, come on, come on
Come on Aussie, come on

See 'em kicking ankles against the Japs,
Sweetly crackin' winners through the gap
They're not just gettin' goals
They're out there smashin' balls
Spinnin' big time records back to back

Come on Aussie, come on, come on
Come on Aussie, come on

In Deutchland we'll go floodin' through the gates
To try and get a look at footballs's greats
No matter what the season
We always have a reason
To shout out come on Aussie with our mates

Come on Aussie, come on, come on
Come on Aussie, come on
Come on Aussie, come on, come on
Come on Aussie, come on

AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE
OI OI OI !

*ignoring and at the same time drowning steve out.

Oh we're from aussie land
A fighting fury
We're from aussie land
In any weather you'll see us with a grin
Risking head and shin
If we're behind then never mind
We'll fight and fight and win
For we're from aussie land
We never weaken till the final whistle's gone.
Like the aussies of old
We're strong and we're bold
For we're from aussie (were green and were gold)
We're from aussie land.
