Ok, ....argument you are making here ~ who is the you?

Anyone arguing against the case of christians being partially responsible for the actions and repercussions of their ideology by voluntarily supporting it.

I probably should have said 'you guys'

Christianity is no longer running Crusades.

Christianity has been very recently covering up for pedophile priests though. How do you square that one?

kicky--

Made me laugh.

But, I derived my faith from the Bible and personal study. It does seem light years away from institutionalized Christianity--and I wonder about that difference.

Does that mean that every person who owns a gun in the U.S.A. should be held accountable for anyone who uses a gun to commit a crime or kill someone?

Christianity didn't cover it. People in the church covered it.

They should be put in jail.

kickycan,

No, I do not believe that all Muslims should have to answer questions just because some Muslims are terrorists.

I do not think all men should have to answer questions because some men are rapists.

I do not think anyone should have to suffer the consequences of anyone else's actions.

I am responsible for my own actions. I am not responsible for what some supposed Christian Crusader did hundreds of years ago.

How many times have I been told all atheists are not alike? How many times have I been told all etc., are not alike?

Now, all Christians are responsible for the Crusades and the Salem Witch Trials? Are you serious?

I do not believe in killing anyone because they are not Christian! I do not believe in harming anyone because they are not Christian! I do not believe in Christianity at all costs!

I am NOT RESPONSIBLE for anyone but myself!

That is the long and short of it.http://web4.ehost-services.com/el2ton1/heart.gif

It started out serious by the originator. Many of us stayed away for a while and then came in to say that the life an an atheist is NOT pointless. It has gone both ways since.

Personally, I wish the heading could be changed because, as I have said before, it is offensive to me not only as a Christian, but as a member of the global society.

Kickycan,

I'm not Catholic.

Lash,

It wasn't a joke. And all the Christians (as well as the atheists) have told the originator that we didn't like the title. We have said over and over again, that their life is not pointless.

Not that they paid attention to that point!

Good grief.

But, see kicky. Momma, as a Christian, felt compelled to distance herself from that title. I think it was a good instinct.

But, to get back to what C.I. was saying...how do you think your views would have changed about your religion, had they told you up front, before any of the ingraining of the gospels and the rituals and the instilling of the values--if they had told you first, "Oh, by the way, Christians had this little thing called the Crusades way back when, where they killed a lot of people who didn't believe the way they believed, and then there were the Salem witch trials, and the spanish inquisition..."

Do you think you would have taken to the message of peace and love as easily if that had been the way it had gone?

kickycan,

I had studied the Crusades in school before I became a Christian. I already knew about it!

The difference here, I think, is that I understand it is PEOPLE that did those things. It wasn't the MESSAGE/GOD doing it.

Why should I hold God responsible for what some person did? Not my job, man.

Many of us made our decision based on the life of Jesus, not those who did things by their own hand... not God's... many years later.

I would likely have been a lot more humble in my Christianity. Like the Germans...(boy, I'm all about Germany tonight.) Are they ashamed of their heritage? They shouldn't be. They have many things to be quite proud of. However, they have that awful period thrown in there, too. It doesn't change all of the good, but it does serve as a powerful reminder that none of us is perfect.
