This is NOT Working Out for Me

Yes, it is genetic. Unfortunatly, with things like this, they often creep up and then hit us like a hammer in the head one day. If you do have the opposite of me, we still probably have lots of the same symptoms and I am sure you can relate to many many of the same issues I have been dealing with. Suprisingly, hyper and hypo thyroid both have a lot of the same symptoms.

Sluggishness is the big one. If I don't take meds on time (unithroid, the dose keeps creeping up as time goes by), I definitely feel it. It's like switching to decaf after a lifetime of triple espressos. Dry skin may also be a side effect of the whole thing, though that's probably more a function of my age than anything else.

No, I think dry skin is a hypo reaction.

Check this site out. DrewDad found it for me and it was one of those "I am not alone!" moments. It is focused a lot on Graves but there is hypo information as well since hyper patients will eventually slid into hypo.

Excellent, thanks. Yep, I've got the eyebrow thing going on, so does my mother. Hair is also less dense (a ponytail fits into smaller barrettes now) and coarser than before. Probably more cold intolerance, too, plus weight gain. Oh yeah, I'm a poster child.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, just a lil piggyback, thanks. Smile

No, feel free to post. If you don't know what's happeneing to you, it's scary. If I can help one person out and help them finally figure out what's wrong with them, you can hijack away.

Bella--

One of the most uncomfortable bits of wisdom that I've ever encountered:

Quote:
The majority of the work in this world is accomplished by people who aren't feeling well.

I wish reality weren't so brutal.

Hold your dominion.

That's one of the uncomfortable bits of wisdom I've lived with most all my life, Noddy. Good ol' Teddy Roosevelt had it right.

I have a lot of respect for all of you but (after a quick reading and with the admission that I've never suffered from thyroid problems, etc.) I was sad that "A Mountain of a Woman" was made to sound so negative.

Imagine a real mountain... strong, broad, and really really there. That's not so bad, is it? The Vogue emphasis on real women looking like young boys with tits is wrong; attractive like an albino snake... but not natural.

(And, okay, while I write this and even though I think this particular Mountain of a Woman is quite attractive, I work out on a regular basis to keep from emulating her. Wink

Neat art, is it a fetish object (take yer minds outta the gutter Smile)?

Thanks, Miss Bella. From one wacky thyroid to another, I salute you.

PS Noddy, that is so very true.

Got a book last night and thought of you.

The Thyroid Diet by Mary J Shomon

She discusses all sorts of things, has sample meals...I think that this book is going to prove invaluable during all this.

First tests in and I am waiting anxiously for the appt with my new doctor.

My levels have dropped by half and are into normal range but my doctor is not adjusting my dose. ???
I will be hypo in no time at this rate. This sucks.

Oy. PS thanks for the book recommendation.

Hypo, oof, well, you'll never have to worry about bushy eyebrows again (if that's a concern). Shocked

Jespah -- The Dreamer of Malta or "The Sleeping Lady" is an old statuette found here, in Malta. She was re-discovered in 1902.

Well, I saw my new endo today and I am more than satisfied with this visit. We talked for a hour. He answered all my questions. He wondered why my last endo didn't order WBC and liver enzyme tests this time to make sure that internally I wasn't having problems with the PTU. He did some office tests the other guy never did but most of all, he is 100% happy treating me the way I want to be treated instead of pushing me into and towards RAI....and making me feel guilty for not choosing it.

I can start some "gentle" exercising now, which is nice. I can get my lazy butt up off the couch and in doing so, make myself feel even better. He told me that while diet is important, I don't need to drive myself crazy with it. A good, balanced diet (watching iodine) is sufficient.

I really am happy right now about where this is going and for the first time, I have a pleasant outlook on my situation.
