I was recently at a wedding and when the couple danced it was to a song that I didn't expect them to dance to; it was a country love song and they are so far from country it's crazy.
But it got me thinking, what songs do people choose as "Their Song" and why? Does it spark a memory? Does it just say what you want to say? My husband and I danced to "I Cross My Heart" by Geroge Strait. We both heard it one day and said "That's it" But there are plenty of other songs that I'd have loved to have. "If" for one or "I'll Stand By You".
What is "your song" and why?
I have many songs...
And each song reminds me of a different person that has had a way of being in my life...for some reason of the other....
My song with my husband: Alabama's "Feel So Right".
Merle Haggards: "Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Star", reminds me of one of my best friends that past away a year ago...he was old enough to be my dad, but we were true friends, I could always count on Don...and his children, they are my friends also...
Eagles: "Desparado"...makes me think of Wayne
Merle Haggards: "Think I'll just stay here and drink", makes me think of all my ya-ya sisters...lol
Grecthen Wilson's.."Redneck Woman"...they tell that its ME...LOL
I'm single so mine would be:
Better Off Without a Wife ~ Tom Waits
all my friends are married
every Tom and Dick and Harry
you must be strong
to go it alone
here's to the bachelors
and the bowery bums
and those who feel that they're the ones
who are better off without a wife
CHORUS
I like to sleep until the crack of noon
midnight howlin' at the moon
goin' out when I wanto, comin' home when I please
I don't have to ask permission
if I want to go out fishing
and I never have to ask for the keys
never been no Valentino
had a girl who lived in Reno
left me for a trumpet player
didn't get me down
he was wanted for assault
though he said it weren't his fault
well the coppers rode him right
out of town
CHORUS
selfish about my privacy
as long as I can be with me
we get along so well I can't believe
I love to chew the fat with folks
and listen to all your dirty jokes
I'm so thankful for these friends
I do receive
my song used to be the one that goes :
Im a bitch,
im a lover
im a child
im a mother
im a sinner
im a saint
I do not feel ashamed..
Im your hell
im your dream
im nothing in between ..
blah blah blahh... anyyy other wayyyy
( heheh)
then i grew out of enjoying being called a sinner..
LOL, I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE that SONG!
My wife and I agreed that our song was "Patience" by Guns and Roses.
Yeah, we're old. And yeah, it's goofy.
To be a Guns-n-Roses Fan...you can't be all that old Questioner...lol I remember them well......song for song, word for word....lol

I think thats by Beth Orton.
I dont have a song because no one loves me(a single lonely tear forms at the corner of my eye and drops from my withered ugly cheek onto the hand that has no other to hold)
Since You Asked
Natalie Cole
Material Girl, the song Shewolf spoke of is by Meredith Brooks
My song, has been posted on another thread today... Hallelujah
The same version.
That was my song with my best friend who died recently, we used to sing it on stage together....good times
Reading it again made me cry, I think I'll go listen to it now, and sing along very quietly

I knew Id get it wrong.I dont have my music head on today.
for me and my wife it was Jim Croce's Time in a Bottle.
I still cry when we dance to that song. I must be a wimp or sentimental or some people think i'm just mental.
Changes by Phil Ochs
Sit by my side, come as close as the air,
Share in a memory of gray;
Wander in my words, dream about the pictures
That I play of changes.
Green leaves of summer turn red in the fall
To brown and to yellow they fade.
And then they have to die, trapped within
the circle time parade of changes.
Scenes of my young years were warm in my mind,
Visions of shadows that shine.
Til one day I returned and found they were the
Victims of the vines of changes.
The world's spinning madly, it drifts in the dark
Swings through a hollow of haze,
A race around the stars, a journey through
The universe ablaze with changes.
Moments of magic will glow in the night
All fears of the forest are gone
But when the morning breaks they're swept away by
golden drops of dawn, of changes.
Passions will part to a strange melody.
As fires will sometimes burn cold.
Like petals in the wind, we're puppets to the silver
strings of souls, of changes.
Your tears will be trembling, now we're somewhere else,
One last cup of wine we will pour
And I'll kiss you one more time, and leave you on
the rolling river shores of changes.
Watch me wallabys feed mate.
Watch me wallabys feed.
They're a dangerous breed mate.
So watch me wallabys feed.
Altogether now!
Tie me kangaroo down sport,
tie me kangaroo down.
Tie me kangaroo down sport,
tie me kangaroo down.
Keep me cockatoo cool, Curl,
keep me cockatoo cool.
Don't go acting the fool, Curl,
just keep me cockatoo cool.
Altogether now!
Take me koala back, Jack,
take me koala back.
He lives somewhere out on the track, Mac,
so take me koala back.
Altogether now!
Let me Abos go loose, Lou, *
let me Abos go loose.
They're of no further use, Lou,
so let me Abos go loose.
Altogether now!
Mind me platypus duck, Bill,
mind me platypus duck.
Don't let him go running amok, Bill,
mind me platypus duck.
Altogether now!
Play your digeridoo, Blue,
play your digeridoo.
Keep playing 'til I shoot thro' Blue,
play your digerydoo.
Altogether now!
Tan me hide when I'm dead, Fred,
tan me hide when I'm dead.
So we tanned his hide when he died Clyde,
(Spoken) And that's it hanging on the shed.
Altogether now!
I was all ready to answer seriously when I saw that Dys and Gus had already come along and stomped all the sentiment right out of the thread.
how do you know they were not serious?
;-)
a very good point, shewolf...on further consideration, those probably
are sentimental songs for them.
After seeing Gus, and Dys songs, I may change mine. Hmmm.

It's not Alanis Morrisette?
