Okay, I guess I can see what you're all saying. At first, you can't just go screwing around for no good reason, unless you're a teenager, which pretty much means you're worthless anyways.

Indeed, and the vitrol (e.g. calling the poster worthless and such) is just plain rude and uncalled for. Rolling Eyes

It's never okay to lie like this. It's just not. And Chai Tea, you and I may not agree on a lot of things, but I am behind you 100% on this one.

People make discernments about people by their behaviors. One might question, "If you will lie about something like this, showing little concern for the truth or others, what else are you willing to do?"

I am not saying everyone does exactly that, but it does give one pause, doesn't it?

you have only been there for 3 mths, and want another sick day off???
It appears to myself and others that going to seaworld or whatever it is,
is obviously more important to you than your employment!

Not only do you let all your other team members down, you realy dont care that they will be carrying you on that day....

Well have fun on your 'sick' day off

Well, I hope we didn't scare her off. But, I do hope she understands why we all feel the way we do.

Could be, Husker. I think that she was looking for affirmation, and instead had a mirror held up to her face.

UPDATE
Geez,

I didn't expect such a negative response to my question. Well I went to Busch Gardens/SeaWorld anyway and had a great time. I might not have explained myself fully. My job is a nobrainer and no one is really hurt if I'm not here. I just took this job for pocket money. I deal with retirees as an activities director whose schedule is made up months prior. I also felt obliged to go on this trip since we had planned it months before. It was my Son's birthday weekend and my last chance to go on vacation as a family. My husband wants a divorce. I don't regret it, but sorry that so many of you were offended. This was also my first "calll in", my other absence was when Hurricane Katrina hit FL and no one was expected in since there was no power. Anyway thanks for all your advise, I'll be rethinking next time I want to call in. Very Happy

Well, I am glad that you will be rethinking next time. Even what may seem the most of a nobrainer job to you, may mean the whole world to someone else.

If you took the job just for pocket money and maybe don't want to commit to it as one should for any job, maybe you should rethink having it?

No brainer or not, a job is a job and some of us take pride in our work..and some of us don't.

Exactly. People who care about their jobs are available in an emergency, even when sick. [..] There are exceptions to this, of course, being in the hospital or somewhere you cannot be reached but the key to all is planning. An employer will be less angry that you took a day off and were unreachable than calling in and being unreachable.

Oh fer chrissakes - when an employee is sick you leave him ALONE.

Emergency? Unless you're an aerospace engineer monitoring the space shuttle, is there really going to be something THAT life-threatening that your employer shouldnt be expected to manage about it without bothering his sick employees at home? "Key to all is planning", yeah, and that goes for the employer, too. Its his task to make sure he has enough staff on hand and has the roster scheduled smartly enough to be able to deal with replacing sick people - thats his job. Thats why they earn so much more than us mere employees too.

Any employer who calls his people when they're sick at home is failing at his job.

By no brainer I meant everything I do is scheduled at least 2 months prior to the date that activity is done. My meaning, my daily work consists of scheduling things to do in two months time. Easily done on another day, I didn't mean for you guys to think I disrespected my job. I love the retirees I work with they give me a new perspective on life. Anyway, I just wanted to clear it up, plus spending this weekend with my family was very important for me.

Re: Calling in sick??
OK, lemme see... lets just hone in on one aspect that all of you happily went off on, shall we?

This is what viv told us:

viv411 wrote:
I've been working for three months and only called in once and that was during Katrina.

This is what you made out of that:

Linkat wrote:
you have only been there for 3 months and you already called in sick once. [..] if you continue calling sick on a some what regular basis - watch out.

Phoenix32890 wrote:
if you get into the the habit of cutting out of work and lying, you may very well not have job when next year comes around.

Bella Dea wrote:
Lying and calling in sick twice in 3 months at a brand new job makes you worthless, IMO

Linkat wrote:
That is not a good employee - only working there 3 months and already calling in sick twice. [..] This person is already showing the ground work of being a habitual absentee employee.

And here, again, is Viv repeating what anyone who'd read her first post would already have known:

viv411 wrote:

Me thinks, it's not just Viv who needs to have "a mirror held up to her face", here. Rolling Eyes

Oh boy do I agree with you NIMH.

If I am taking a day off because I'm sick, then I am sick and trying to rest and want to be left ALONE.

nothing is going to happen while I'm gone that will end the world.

I couple years ago I had a winter where just everything was going wrong, all at the same time.

I fell and really hurt my leg, got a really bad cold, almost the flu, husband was out of town for 2 weeks, and I was trying to adjust to a new medication I was on.

Given a choice, I would have liked to have been knocked out for a week, and I'm not a baby usually when I'm sick.

My boss happens to also be an RN.
Her communication style is like a machine gun...

It was like her f*cking mission to make sure that every f*cking time I managed to f*cking relax and God forbid fall asleep....the f*cking phone would f*cking ring. If I didn't answer, it would f*cking ring again in a half hour.
It would be her asking for ANOTHER f*cking update on how I was doing.
Some nurses are like that, they have this huge control issue, like you wouldn't know how to blow your nose until they showed you.
For instance, the night I went home, saying I wouldn't be in the next day, by 9 o'clock in the f*cking morning she was calling me to see what the doctor said.

The DOCTOR?! I haven't been to the DOCTOR?!...

Why not.

Because I left work at 4:30 yesterday, and now it's 9 f*cking AM!!!!!
AND I'M NOT GOING TO THE DOCTOR, I'M JUST SICK AND TRYING TO SLEEP!!!

Have you ever gotten sick in the afternoon one day, and then had to force yourself to get up in the morning to call into work, knowing you'll never get back to sleep now....I hate that, but I know that first day has to be done...if I'm sick, you will know I'm better when I show back up in a day or two....on the 2nd day I'll call when I eventually wake up and get my head together. Damn, you know I'm not going to leave you hanging in the lurch.

Honestly, we ended up getting in a HUGE fight over this....
I let her know that on a professional level I loved my job, the company, etc. BUT when I take time off because I am sick, I am on MY time.

God, just thinking back on that I still feel SO aggrivated.

God that felt good. Thanks NIMH.

Thank you NIMH, I guess you were paying attention. Everything is fine at work my boss is great. I'm back on track with projects coming up for the Holidays. No one died while I was gone and I was barely missed since the residents had a 1/2 day outing on that day anyway. Thank to all for your advise, you all did have valid points.
