Well, she's home!!!

It was a slow ride home, as I had to watch for every bump in the road. Any jiggling is murder for her.

First thing is she wanted to eat a little and then have a decent sleep.

I had to rush out and fill her prescription for Tylenol #3 (with codiene), so she could keep up with the pain relief.

Now, it a job keeping kitties from jumping up on her while she's in bed. One of them made that mistake already, and Vivienne's winch scared the heck out of her.

In the meantime, I'm tiptoeing around the home and keeping all callers on the phone at bay.

My husband hallucenated on one Tylenol 3... I've never tried them, but I hope this doesn't happen to Viv.

Same thing with me, Mame. When I was just a kid and had a terrible tooth ache, a doctor gave me codeine, and I had the same reaction as your husband.

So glad Viv is home, Reyn. I bet her recovery will be speedy now in spite of the kitties.

We've both had prescriptions for Tylenol #3 in the past. She's okay with it, except that it can be constipating. I've started her off on the prune juice right away.

I'm sorry to hear that. But pain at home is somehow easier to bear than pain in a hospital. At least, it always has been for me.

Mebbe a little BC bud to take the edge off?

Actually, quite a few invoices for synthetic THC have crossed my desk lately. Really does seem to work as a pain killer. Maybe you could suggest Vivienne talk to the doc about it, if she's not getting good pain relief from the old school meds.

if the prune juice doesn't do the job , both mrs h and i can highly recommend APOLLINARIS mineral water !!!
we can buy it here in many regular supermarkets now .
not only will it likely WORK , but also works as a DETOXIFIER .
in europe many people visit spas at great expense to TAKE THE WATERS .
what they often do , is drink the local mineral water !
and you can get it here for less than $2 a bottle - about two glasses a day might be helpful !
looking at the chemical analysis will tell you why it usually works !
you might want to have a look at the linked article .
wishing vivienne , the kitties (and you  ) the best !

APOLLINARIS

just talked on the phone for about an hour ( Shocked Laughing ) to an elderly lady-friend of ours who took in a cat ( GUS ) from the humane society last fall .
GUS has decided that he's the boss and demands to be fed treats only !
he has lately refused to eat his regular food and DEMANDS (rather loudly !) TREATS !!!
she was lamenting that he has eaten hardly anything during the last two days , but will gratefully accept treats !
i reassured her that he won't be starving to death as long as he has access to his regular food and water .
still , she is worried that poor gus will starve and wither away - i feel sorry for her and told her that she'll have to exercise "tough love" !

Hello Eva, Beth, and H.

Well, it's been a tough day here. I'm rather a bit stressed out.

The problem is now the Vivienne's backside is all raw and red from sitting in bed those first few days in hospital. I find it quite unsatisfactory that staff weren't addressing that problem early on.

Now I'm trying to do the best I can, but I'm thinking if I don't see it turn around by tomorrow, a trip to a doctor might be in order to get some prescription cream to correct the situation and get it back to normal. Sad

As my wife and I always say to each other when we're going through a rough patch:

"This, too, shall pass."

good morning to you on the west-coast :

you better have your wife's sore back looked after soon ; bedsores can turn pretty nasty .
any chance of having a nurse come by at least for a few days for an hour a day(victorian order of nurses or community nurse) ? .
keep your head above water !

Yes, indeed! I went this morning and the doctor issued some prescriptions to sort it out.

It turns out that it's not bed sores, but a chemical reaction to the "rubberished sheet" that she was lying on.

I still think it was a bit shoddy of staff not catching this before she was discharged.

Hi Reyn,
I am in Birch Bay at the moment, but usually close enough (Tri-Cities) so that if you needed a hand, I could be there right-quick!

Thanks for the offer, but I should be okay. Things just get a bit overwhelming at times.

What's up in Birch Bay?

You got that right when you say things just get a bit overwhelming at times.

Birch Bay = holidays /sex / bike rides / spicy sausage omelets / merlot / free wi-fi at the café / starry nights / foggy mornings / sunny afternoons / might dig for shellfish - might not / might go to Seattle to buy a guitar - might not.........

Just checking in. Glad that , despite a few minor issues, the road to recovery sounds pretty smooth.

Hi FM!

I suppose things are recovering slowly, but believe me, the killer rash on my wife's backside is anything but minor. I've got to attend to it 3 times a day.

I hope the condition turns around soon. We figure she had some kind of chemical reaction to the rubberized small sheet that she was lying on while in hospital. Shocked

Well, it's Day 8 since Vivienne's surgery on the 6th. Generally, she's coming along fine, although the internal healing process produces along of "tugging and pulling" (my wife's description) inside. I know it hurts like hell, otherwise she would say nothing.

Today, to be on the safe side, I took her back to our GP to check her backside. I was concerned if the prescription cream we were using was the right one. His office called a local dermatologist and we got seen to within about 40 minutes! This is unheard of! We were so grateful.

Anyways, the doctor was able to confirm that, in his opinion, the cream was probably the best one to use. We see him again in two weeks to follow it all up.

I'm surprised that Vivienne seems so mobile. She has been able to (very carefully mind) get up to the 2nd floor of our home. It's been easier to bathe in the tub, rather that in the kitchen.

Getting in and out of the car is a challenge though. The good thing is that our Echo has a relatively high roof, making this a bit easier than some other cars.

I think things will be a bit better after next Monday when she has her staples out. I had to put a new big bandage on it today, as the old one came off. I counted the staples, and there were 32! That's going to hurt when they come out. Shocked
