Itd be nice to plan something if there are people willing to travel and enjoy.
I would suggest October for leaf peeping...well, I guess it depends on the leaf but, you know what I mean.
Early October is nice, not too cold or too great a chance of snow as well.

Do I have to separate the two of you?

A road trip to Franconia Notch would be one heck of an excursion....early October when the mountains are on fire. Daaaamnnnn....I think that's the first time I've gotten nostalgic for NH since I moved out. I must be getting old!

Um, yeah, ok. That would be Franconia Notch. Shocked

If I can find pictures before next Sat, I'll bring some with me to show you. 'Course they were taken before the Old Man crumbled.

It would be kinda funny to visit the old man for the first time right after his fall.

Some society or other has been working to save the old man for years. I remember reading about it when I was in high school. He's been in danger of losing his nose since the early-mid 1980s. There's talk of trying to rebuild him, but I don't think that should happen because the Old Man himself was just one of nature's wonders. The decision to do something about it would be a purely financial one. Honestly, I think there are so many more interesting things to see up in those parts. The Flume, for example, is breathtaking, and quite a nice hike.

There's a gorgeous gorge just North of Keene.

Once you are through the notch... then what?

A few miles up the road is Littleton NH. Now, this is where I'm thinking I'll get k's attention... There's a store there on Main Street with the Guinness Record longest 'penny' candy counter.

Dunno, we always turned back after that. When I was a kid, Dad would take the family up there. We'd have a picnic at the base of the Old Man, do the nature walk thingy around the Basin, and he knew this spot where there was a natural cold spring, so we'd stop and fill up a couple of gallon bottles. By then it was almost dark and we'd head south again and get a room at one of the motels on Weir's Beach where we'd stay for a couple of nights.

I always figured the end of the Earth was on the other side of the notch. Wink
