At home I almost only drink espresso, ocassionally on sundays I will have a cappacino with some weird syrup or another. I always tip at the starbucks so the barista gives me free bottles of syrup when I ask.

Anyone have a particularly favorite flavored syrup?

I'm normally flavorless in my latte, but when the mood strikes Vanilla is usually first choice; Hazelnut is next. Recently I tried Caramel ... tasty!

I don't care for Irish Creme.

(And George, I'm definitely going to try the Creole. Sounds excellent!)

I never had coffee with any kind of syrup. I have to look into that. So your saying that they put syrup in the coffee at starbucks?

Almond is pretty good but my new favorite is Toffe Nut. Two that didn't work for me were orange and raspberry.

You can have any number of syrups added if you want. I have a bit of a collection at home.

Thats one I haven't tried yet, for me the fruit flavors don't work too well in coffee.

Unless you consider Kahluha a fruit.

Fruit flavored coffee will not do. Amaretto is okay occasionally.

(Of course these syrups also go well in soda water, making an Italian Soda.)

If you have a local roasting house, they probably carry a variety of the syrups.

Coffee liqueur based on espresso coffee:
1 cup (2.4 dl) espresso coffee (or strong South American coffee)
1 cup sugar
2 cups vodka (40-50% or 80-100 proof)
1/2 vanilla bean split lengthwise

Make a fresh brew of espresso coffee or strong coffee of a similar type. Add the sugar. After cooling, add the vanilla bean and vodka. Transfer to a bottle. After 2-4 weeks strain, remove the vanilla bean and transfer to a new bottle.

You may substitute half a cup of vodka with brandy to obtain a slightly different flavor.

Coffee liqueur based on ordinary coffee:
2 cups (4.8 dl) coffee of British type
1 1/4 cup (3 dl) sugar
2 cups vodka (50-60% or 100-120 proof)
1/2 vanilla bean split lengthwise

Make a fresh brew of strong coffee (ordinary American coffee is too diluted!) Add the sugar. After cooling, add the vanilla bean and vodka. Transfer to a bottle. After 2-4 weeks strain, remove the vanilla bean and transfer to a new bottle. This coffee liqueur will have a lower alcohol content than the first one.

Coffee liqueur based on instant coffee:
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup instant coffee
2 cups vodka
1/2 vanilla bean split lengthwise or 1 tbs vanilla powder or 1 tbs vanilla extract

Dissolve the instant coffee in 1 cup of hot water. Dissolve the sugar, and add vodka. Also add the vanilla. If you are using a vanilla bean, remove
it after 2-4 weeks.

Homemade Kahlua Recipe

6 cups sugar

6 cups water

20 tsp instant coffee

1/2 gallon vodka

12 tsp pure vanilla

Mix sugar, water, coffee together and bring to slow boil. Turn heat down and simmer 1 hour. Remove heat, cover liquid with plastic wrap. Let sit for 12 hours, then remove wrap (it will pick up film from the top). Add vodka and vanilla, stir well. Bottle in dark bottles.

Notes:, Yield 3 quarts. Drinkable immediately. We usually make a half-batch because it's so darn big.

Vanilla Coffee Liqueur

Makes 5 cups

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
1 cup granulated sugar
2 cups water
1/2 cup instant coffee powder
3 cups vodka
1/2 vanilla bean, split (or 2 teaspoons vanilla extract)

Directions

Combine sugars and water. Boil for 5 minutes. Gradually stir in coffee. Cool.
Add vodka and vanilla and mix thoroughly. Cover and let ripen for 1 month.
Remove vanilla bean.

Coffee Liqueur

Categories: Alcohol, Beverages

4 c Sugar
2 c Water
2/3 c Instant coffee
10 Coffee beans (whole)
Fifth of vodka*
1 Vanilla bean (2-3 inches)

Combine water, sugar, and coffee in a saucepan and bring to a full boil. Skim off the froth and allow to cool thoroughly. Pour into the container. Add vodka, coffee beans (optional but will add a fuller flavor), and vanilla bean. Store in a dark place for 3 weeks. Strain and filter. Ready to serve.
*A brandy/vodka mix may be substituted for a simulated "Kahula".
*A rum/vodka mix may be used to simulate "Tia Maria".
Yield: 1 1/2 quarts (may be halved)

Here are some easy ones:

Irish Coffee

Pour shot of Irish whiskey.
Add sugar or sweetener (3 teaspoons?)
Fill with strong black coffee to within one inch of top. Stir gently.
Top off to the brim with heavy cream slightly aerated (or half & half).

Cafe Alpine

Pour shot of Peppermint schnapps
Fill with strong black coffee
Top with whipped cream (optional).

Cafe Royale (This one sounds good, but I've not tried it.)

1 sugar cube
Brandy
Coffee

Soak sugar cube in a spoon with brandy. Light it. When the flame goes out, drop it in the coffee.

Mudslide

1/2 ounce vodka
1/2 ounce Kahlua Coffee Liquor (This qualifies as "coffee," right? Wink )
1/2 ounce Bailey's Irish Cream
1 ounce Half & Half

Fill a shaker half full with ice cubes. Pour all ingredients into shaker and shake well. Strain drink into a cocktail glass and serve.
