Because there's us and then there's the stupid them.

I like tangled lines, it's the way I think.

Drives the linear crazy, unless they just dismiss it out of hand.

I tend to the verbose, when I'm not succinct. Some are always succinct. Dys, for example, though his posts paint worlds. Some are verbose with good reason.

So, never mind us, how'd you land here anyway?

There are lots of moderates here - it all depends on what end you are looking from!

Internationally speaking, America looks firmly swung to the right.

Therefore, on an American site, moderates on almost any other scale appear to many Americans as left.

Shrugs.

So, dlowan, sometime in three or four years when you aren't entirely busy, could you and some others work up a questionaire? I know it's been done. I am more interested re your take than previous formats.

Really? I've always been a sucker for the argument that goes something like "Well, I know you're way too intelligent to be a Republican." Just makes me want to bend things a little so they think I got a lotta smarts.

Lord - ask Nimh!!!

I could do a funny one - kinda like the "are you still middle class?" one we worked out as a joke some years ago.

As you know, the middle income earners/middle class folks have been squoze over the last couple of decades - and I was asking one day (after having to refuse yet another dinner invitation cos I couldn't afford a restaurant that week, since I was "living on the larder" in order to keep those purveyors of luxury, the electricity, phone, gas and mortgage etc companies in the manner to which they have become accustomed) if I had fallen off the edge of the middle class?

I fell at the first hurdle on the silly questionnaire people made up - I didn't have instant coffee in the house!

So, um, yeah, we're here. We're in the back, eating the last of the Chinese takeout, but we're here.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled topic, already in progress.

You ate the last of the chinese takeout, now I know what kind of a place this is.

LastModerate, welcome to A2K; glad to have you here among the inmates.

I don't think we've ever had a left wing president. Plenty of right wing and a few moderates.

The problem is that most right wingers wrongly label moderates as liberals. And they label liberals socialists or communists devils.

They don't seem to even understand those who are fiscal conservatives and socially liberal. This groups may include many libertarians.

There is only one legitimate belief, that of right wing conservative, social and economic. They tend to be chauvinists of the Bush administration and attack anyone who does not adore Bush and the Republican Party. You can count on their attacks being in defense of Republicans and hatred for Democrats, especially Bill Clinton, whom they view as the devil incarnate. I never voted for Clinton, but if given a choice between Clinton and Bush, I wouldn't hesitate to vote for Clinton.

The only time I voted Democrat was against Bush and reluctantly for Kerry because I believed that Bush was a disaster for America. Turns out I was right.

Other than all of this, the inmates manage a degree of civility on these threads. If they don't, the moderators will zap them. I've been zapped a couple of times, but I'm still unrepentant as a 76 year old who has mellowed a little with old age.

One of the latest moderate ploys I've seen is the Gang of 14 comprised of both parties that basically stood up for good sense and cooperation which broke the lunatics of each party. This enmity is insanity, and it's going to destroy the country. I think the middle has shrunk considerably.

Agreed.

The problem is, the middle has shrunk considerably, but the two sides are not actually mutually exclusive. That is, someone who is "conservative" might be in favor of gay rights; someone who is "liberal" might be in favor of the death penalty. The either/ or mindset itself is a big part of the problem.

Very true. Intractible thought, a straight shot to a closed mind.
