Wilso - I also do not like mashed potatoes. They're mushy - do I chew, just swallow them, mush it around? Dunno, don't like them. I don't like any kind of pasty food like that, squashes and things. Funny though, my mother made potatoes with every meal (still does) - boiled, mashed, baked...and I still eat them, even though I don't like them. I try to put garlic and butter or other things in mine to make them more palatable.

I also don't like:
Eggs - I will eat a fried egg occasionally but I will starve before I eat a boiled egg, an omelete or scrambled eggs. The smell of scrambled eggs actually makes me nauseous.

Onions - yuck. If they're cut up already in something I'll try to pick them out, but sometimes I just grin and bear it. I won't eat raw onions under any circumstances.

I already mentioned potatoes. I'll eat them, but I don't like them.

Steamed clams and oysters - the whole body/belly thing turns me off. I used to eat steamers as a kid but not anymore. Psychological I guess.

Lobster - I grew up on and live on the ocean so this confounds people. No one in my family eats lobster and you know why? Lobster has a rich taste. That taste is in direct relation to the way the mudflats smell when the tide goes out. Yep, lobsters taste like lowtide, ladies and gentlemen. Sorry.

I'd also say things that aren't commonly eaten here - brains, hearts, etc.. I have acquired a taste for chicken liver pate though.

There are a few other things (brussel sprouts, cabbage...) but I'd eat them if I had to. I'm pretty easy to feed.

cilantro (a little goes a long way!)
licorice, anise, etc.
coffee - and anything coffee-flavored
raw onions
raw oysters
headcheese
sushi
mint ice cream - it tastes like frozen toothpaste!

By the way, halavah is made from sesame seeds, not almonds. It has a weird texture, but I like it.

I'm with you about that iceberg lettuce, Jerry - it has no flavor; why bother?

realjohnboy - I worked in southwest Virginia for a couple of years. A friend came to visit and ordered iced tea at Shoney's. One of the funniest exchanges I've ever heard was his conversation with the waitress about whether he wanted tea or sweet-tea. With her local accent, it sounded like swate-tay. He had no clue, but then decided she was calling him "sweetie" which didn't help! I eventually had to explain to him about pre-sweetened tea. Laughing

Who the smeg put "EMU" on the menu? Hello? I am going to have to watch my ass around you folks! Don't touch!

If I was stranded in the desert with either sand to eat or these foods, I would happily munch dirt:
Cabbage
Brussels Sprouts
Cauliflower
Spinach
Zucchini
Squash
Turnip
Mustard
Anchovies
Corn
Asparagus
Prunes
Pickles
