You know we have a real big problem with racism when politicians like Bo French think it's ok to call Brown kids at a college football game a "problem".

The Oklahoma City bombing was a domestic terrorist truck bombing on April 19, 1995, that targeted the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It remains the deadliest act of homegrown terrorism in U.S. history (prior to the September 11 attacks).

At 9:02 a.m. local time, Timothy McVeigh detonated a rented Ryder truck filled with a large homemade bomb (primarily ammonium nitrate fertilizer mixed with fuel oil and other chemicals, totaling roughly 4,800–5,000 pounds of explosives) parked outside the north entrance of the nine-story building. The blast destroyed about one-third of the structure, damaged or destroyed more than 300 nearby buildings, incinerated dozens of vehicles, and caused widespread devastation in a multi-block area.

Casualties: 168 people were killed (167 directly by the explosion and collapse, plus one rescue worker later), including 19 children (most in the America’s Kids daycare center on the second floor). Hundreds more (reports range from over 500 to about 680–850) were injured. Ninety-eight of the victims were federal employees.

Perpetrators and motive: Timothy McVeigh (a former U.S. Army soldier and Gulf War veteran) planned and carried out the attack. Terry Nichols (another Army veteran and associate) helped build the bomb and obtain materials. Michael Fortier knew of the plot beforehand and was later convicted as a co-conspirator (he received a reduced sentence after cooperating). McVeigh was motivated by anti-government extremism linked to the 1992 Ruby Ridge standoff, the 1993 Waco siege (the bombing occurred on its second anniversary), and opposition to federal gun laws and perceived government overreach. He was influenced by far-right militia/Patriot movement ideas and materials such as The Turner Diaries.

Investigation and aftermath: McVeigh was arrested about 90 minutes later during a traffic stop north of the city for driving without a license plate and carrying a concealed weapon. He was identified as a suspect within days via the truck’s VIN, rental records, and a composite sketch. The FBI-led OKBOMB investigation was one of the largest in its history. McVeigh was convicted in 1997 on federal charges including conspiracy, use of a weapon of mass destruction, and murder; he was executed by lethal injection on June 11, 2001. Nichols received life sentences (federal and later state). The damaged building was demolished, and the site became the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, featuring 168 empty chairs representing the victims.

The attack prompted major changes in U.S. domestic counterterrorism, building security, and responses to extremist groups. Annual remembrances continue at the memorial.
