Actually, this is not so hypothetical because there are those who do not follow religion who still think that abortion is wrong. After all, I think that it is a moral issue more than religious.

You are so right. It is true that there are many who follow no religion but still believe abortion to be wrong. That is because they recognize the unborn to be a living human being -- a person, an individual.
If the unborn is just a blob of tissue, an appendage of the mother's body-- how could one possibly think it was wrong to destroy it? It would be like removing a mole or a wart. It would be completely illogical to think abortion was wrong if the unborn was just protein or protoplasm.
But if the unborn is a person, then it is wrong to exterminate him whether you are religious or not. Medically it is quite apparent that the unborn is a person, and you don't have to be religious to realize it.
