This is not that complicated.

- No one has the right to compel sex from their partner.
- No one has the right to compel celibacy from their partner.

The solution being offered is perfectly reasonable. In this case one partner in a sexual monogamous relationship wants sex and the other doesn't. This is a change in the relationship (which was a sexual relationship) so change the rules. The person who wants sex can have it with someone else leaving the person who doesn't want sex in peace. It meets the needs of both people.

Becoming celibate out of a devotion to a partner who is no longer interested... sure, this is a choice that someone in this situation can make. But, it doesn't seem reasonable to me.

The OP stated that this is not an option; this has been pointed out to you.
