Do you call her Joy?

It's right in the middle of winter here.

Today is not too bad, sunny with some cloud and about 16C.

Yesterday was bloody bleak, very overcast, intermittent rain, quite cold. Probably down to about 6C. Actually had to turn the heating on inside for most of the day.

But summer's coming!

We are continuing to have a cooler than normal summer. I'm loving it.

@edgarblythe,
I hate you. It was 30C here and tonight it's 16C... freakishly hot and we don't have AC so I'm in front of two fans spritzing myself every 2 minutes.

@Mame,
My main A/C is down right now. I can't find a replacement blower motor. It's fortunate that we have a window unit in the bedroom.

@edgarblythe,
We're experiencing another heat wave - 30+C - my husband only got 1.5 hours of sleep last night and he just left for two gruelling flights to Kuujjuaq in northern Quebec for 3 weeks or so (for work). I think we're going to have to invest in an a/c as I've been reading a lot more articles about the heat wave becoming more or less permanent in my area.

@Mame,
If you can have A/C I strongly believe you shouldn't put off having it. It's dangerous to suffer too much heat, as I'm sure you already know.

found out my spoiled girl's dorm does not have a/c. Ha ha she is going to have a rude awakening as she loves it - I am constantly telling her to turn the level up (meaning a higher degree so it is not used as much) - she loves to be cool and sleep under her blankets but the electricity can get crazy.

I am going to enjoy her discomfort for the first month of school for her.

At a place where I worked maintenance, one very young woman kept her A/C on the coldest setting 24/7. The door and windows were always soaking wet. Some of the work orders she turned were the result of too much A/C. We were relieved when she moved out.

@edgarblythe,
I have 3 companies coming in to quote on it the last week of July. I was talking to my son, who's a plumber, and he recommended two of them. I think he wanted to install it himself but since he works for a commercial outlet, they are not able to buy residential units. I think I'll just go with the company I choose and pay them to do the install.

@Mame,
An hour ago it was 27, but a thunder storm just rolled through and lowered it to 21. Hail, torrential rain, and lightning hit the transformer 2 doors away, taking out the power. BOOM! So loud I flinched.

@Joeblow,
And it's weird weather here for July, too. Plus we have smoke from both BC and SASK fires hovering over us. There's a health warning out.

@Mame,
Here too, sadly. There's anout 50 forest fires in Northern Ontario causing a milky looking haze over most of us. Clearly visible. Air quality warnings. This storm and expected cold front will help with that.

Twenty nine degrees here, the met office has issued a weather warning for heat. It’s the first time a warning has been issued for heat over here.

@izzythepush,
Yeah, that's hot isn't it. Do you have to contend with humidity as well? That can make things absolutely miserable depending on where you are. Do you have a/c? Some people don't care for it, but I don't understand them.

@Joeblow,
I'm getting a couple of quotes next week for central air. Alex can't sleep as it is and we're only at the beginning of July. Also, I read that it's only going to get worse every year, so may as well get it.

@Mame,
I've lived without it, and with it. With it is BETTER.
