Easy to say that from the other side of the ocean.

The thing that scares me the most is Russia using a tactical nuke. It isn't beyond Putin's mind set. He has already said that if Ukraine attacks any of the land he has already ceded, he would consider it an attack on Russia. He will therefore use nukes to defend the sovereignty.

After all, it's only a little bitty tactical nuke, right? I don't know the strength of the smallest nukes, but I don't believe there is such a thing as a "little bitty" nuke. This kind of action would change the whole complexion of the war and require an American response of some kind!

This would be the tipping point that would set off the disaster.

This guy has an opinion about the likely response.

@Walter Hinteler,
I look at everything that’s happening, consult pertinent history (reading and fascinating conversations with the history professor and major in the family), try to examine logical motivation dispassionately, and think critically to try to understand wtf is going on in the world.

I think most people do this, but the first step for most people here is, how can I work this out in a way that supports my preferred political worldview. I don’t do that.

I many times despise my understanding of what’s going on in the world in the past couple of decades, but I’m not wearing rose-colored glasses like most people here seem to do.

@BillW,
Tactical nukes are around 10% the size of the nuke used on Hiroshima. Both the US and Russia have Thermobaric weapons which are more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb and Russia has already used them in Ukraine, so "nuclear bombs" in this context is really only valuable for the scare effect. A tactical nuc would be similar to a thermobaric bomb, irradiate a piece of land Russia says they want and turn the world against Russia all in one fell swoop.

In order to parrot something, you first have to had heard it.
If he said the US is making moves toward global dominance, I happen to have arrived at that conclusion.

There are myriad posts by me over the years, talking about my pretty strong opinions on the petrodollar, America’s unpopular and oppressive hegemony, and the fact that that status quo can’t go on forever.

@Lash,
If you repeat a lie long enough people will believe it's the truth.

You've still got a long way to go, and you've been at this game for over a decade.

That's a bit much coming from someone who supports school shootings.

@engineer,
One other observation. When Russia used thermobaric weapons, the cry went up, but the world was pretty much silent. The world is not going to be silent if a nuclear weapon is used. Russia gains nothing and probably loses a lot if they use nucs.

@Lash,
I might well be (and personally I think, it is) that Putin's action are led beside others by his understanding of the Russian history.

So you agree with that.
Others have a different view, which might be sourced by living in the neighbourhood.

From the Kremlin's point of view, the region of Zaporizhzhya now belongs to Russia - yet Putin's troops have shelled several residential buildings there.
As nearly the only one here without wearing rose-colored glasses, you understand it?

Hunter Biden's laptop. It will reveal the vast range of corruption and deceits endemic to "the Biden crime family!" I think we all recall the years of such explosive claims from FOX and elsewhere.

Quote:
Federal agents investigating President Biden’s son Hunter have gathered what they believe is sufficient evidence to charge him with tax crimes and a false statement related to a gun purchase, according to people familiar with the case

You must feel so small and in fear to throw out such ridiculous statements.

It’s another embarrassingly transparent, desperate attempt to stop the adult conversation about real things that you are unable to contribute to.

@Walter Hinteler,
Something seems to have been lost in translation. Would you please clarify the meaning of this sentence?

“I might well be (and personally I think, it is) that Putin's action are led beside others by his understanding of the Russian history.”

Although I don’t think your question is proffered in good faith, I’ll be glad to offer a good faith answer once I understand the question.

@Lash,
The "I" should be "It".

I just think that Putin's actions are shaped by his own understanding of Russian history (among other things, anyway).
And I wonder if this also explains the missile attacks on the apartment blocks and the killing of their inhabitants, who are now Russians according to Russian law and live on Russian territory.

I definitely have no memory of saying anything like that—but knowing me, if I ever did that, it would be to share with you what it feels like to be the object of ridiculous false accusations.

@hightor,
Quote:
former NRA spokesperson and former Breitbart writer Dana Loesch saying: “I don’t care if Herschel Walker paid to abort endangered baby eagles. I want control of the Senate.”

...Bunch noted what many observers have already called out: that the Republicans no longer care about anything but winning. But he went on: they insist on winning so they can put their vision of Christian domination into effect. “[T]he so-called ‘family values’ of American fundamentalists…turn out to be mere window dressing that can be tossed for the movement’s true aim: authoritarianism,” he wrote.

This is what's most critically important now. Not Russia. Not Putin. Not petrodollars. The last few days and multiple pages here have functioned as distractions from the ripening proto-fascism of the modern right in America. Be aware of what Lash is up to.

If someone drops a tactical nuke on Europe, Hershel Walker is not their priority.
Why are you trying to stop this conversation? Can’t you talk about your interests without controlling others? Hmmm.
