Negative. It's telling that a black editor will coerce her or his writers to write more articles that lap up progressive liberals, something readers of Fortune magazine wouldn't want Fortune to do.

Fortune is a business publication. We have other magazines covering current events, say, The Economist, Time magazine, or even the New Yorker. And such magazines all gravitate towards liberal thinking.

Bloomberg Businessweek seems to be another one hankering after liberal values; only Forbes seems to be a conservative one.

I think readers of Fortune don't need another financial magazine preaching the virtues of liberal order. They just want to read well-written financial articles; that's supposed to be Fortune's strong suit.

I don't even care if Time wants to have a black editor or not since I don't read Time.

That's why it's decidedly complicated. They could be enemies as well as allies in different situations.
