Joe Biden: You need to be proactive in ratting out your friends and relatives:

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2021/06/15/biden-administration-asks-americans-to-report-potentially-radicalized-friends-and-family/

He might have gotten the idea from reading the tale of Pavlik Morozov.

@mommabear,
People have already done so since January 6th, contacting the FBI about their relatives' involvement in the riots.

From January 16th
Quote:
In relationships already strained or severed, last week’s violent spectacle of democracy under siege has pushed some people to take a drastic new step: warning law enforcement. Anguished Americans are turning in friends and family for their alleged involvement in the Capitol riots, contributing to more than 100,000 tips submitted to the FBI and playing a role in at least one high-profile arrest.

For months — sometimes years — the informants say they have watched helplessly as loved ones embraced far-right ideology and latched onto conspiracy theories, from QAnon to viral-video claims of a coronavirus “Plandemic.” Extremism has thrived in the Trump era and under pandemic lockdowns, experts say, with more people isolated at home and misinformation rampant online.

Increasingly estranged friends and relatives told The Washington Post they were driven to law enforcement by their own politics, a sense of moral obligation and a fear of what their loved ones could do next.

“They left me no choice because they are on such a destructive path and I do worry about other people’s safety as well as theirs,” said a Texas woman who recounted learning through social media that family members were on the Capitol lawn, apparently beyond the barriers that rioters toppled. Her husband said he can corroborate that she informed the FBI.

@mommabear,
It was funny how easily Mr. Putin outmaneuvered Mr. Biden.

Mr. Biden wanted to complain about Mr. Putin's crackdown on Russian protesters.

But Mr. Putin merely pointed out how progressives are criminalizing peaceful protest here in the US.

All Mr. Biden could do is lie and say that American protesters are criminals, and then falsely accuse American protesters of killing a police officer (in reality it was a police officer who killed a American protester).

Everyone could see that Mr. Biden was lying. And Mr. Biden could tell that everyone could see through his lies. I thought he might start crying.

Maybe we can get Mr. Trump back in 2024.

He will probably still be doing 7 to 10 at the Colorado Supermax with Ted Kazinski and Eric Rudolf

@farmerman,
If we outlaw the Democratic Party we can put an end to these abuses of power.

In the meantime Mr. Putin is right to say that Democrats have no business whining about him jailing his political opponents when they do the very same thing here in the US.

Congress approves bill to make Juneteenth a federal holiday

Quote:
The United States will soon have a new federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the nation.

The House voted 415-14 Wednesday to make Juneteenth, or June 19th, the 12th federal holiday. The bill now goes to President Joe Biden’s desk to be signed into law.

Juneteenth commemorates when the last enslaved African Americans learned they were free. Confederate soldiers surrendered in April 1865, but word didn’t reach the last enslaved Black people until June 19, when Union soldiers brought the news of freedom to Galveston, Texas. That was also about two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation freeing slaves in the Southern states.

It’s the first new federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was created in 1983.

The Senate passed the bill a day earlier under a unanimous consent agreement that expedites the process for considering legislation. It takes just one senator’s objection to block such agreements.

@Rebelofnj,
Does this have to get past McConnell and the Republican Senators?
If so, it was a nice idea, but sayonara.

@snood,
Surprisingly, the Senate voted unanimously in favor of the federal holiday.

Originally, Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin had objected, citing budgetary reasons, but he dropped his objection.

Biden will likely sign the bill into law by the end of the week.

You have to admit that Putin is a fox. He mentioned BLM when he was answering a question from a black journalist at his press conference. He also mentioned the storming of the Capitol after a journalist asked him a question concerning Russia's opposition. Both Fox News and MSNBC spent hours televising the whole press conference. Darn! it's no stretch to say that Putin held sway over Biden at this press conference. Putin, who used to be a member of KGB, loves to go mano a mano with his rivals and knows how to dodge the bullet. That's why he mentioned BLM after a black reporter asked him a question about Russia's abuses. He wouldn't have done that if a white reporter had asked this question.

Biden only wants to answer softball questions. That's a liability for him.

@RABEL222,
Putin is a con artist. He is said to have taken home a fistful of money , according to Forbes. Forbes even once called him the richest man in Europe. Trump was a business man before he became a politician. And he struck gold after becoming the host of The Apprentice ” produced by NBC. It also gave him a chance to rub shoulders with well-to-do foreign tycoons. The founder of Alibaba, who owns the largest e-commerce company in China, even tried to cajole Trump ino investing in China. Trump reportedly pooh-poohed the offer.

@RABEL222,
Biden is too nice to be a president. He doesn't like confrontation, not the hard-charging Trump or Hillary Clinton, who used to be a sharp-elbowed politician.

Jen Psaki " has admitted that she advises the president against taking impromptu questions." Jen Psaki used to be a CNN contributor . Now you know why Biden is loth to get tough on Russia at his press conference

His CNN aides must have told him not to rile Putin by being a tough guy in front of Putin. Biden needs more macho aides.

@Rebelofnj,

Fourteen Republican Senators voted against a Juneteenth national holiday. Their “reasons” were ridiculous and pathetic.

One Senator (Rosendale- Montana) said it was “an attempt by the left to create a day out of whole cloth as part of its larger efforts to make critical race theory our national ideology.”

I would bet you dollars to doughnuts these same people were against the MLK Memorial and the Museum of African American History. For some of the same half-assed “reasons”.

Supreme Court rejects GOP challenge to Obamacare, saving health care law

Quote:
The Supreme Court on Thursday tossed out a closely watched legal battle targeting the Affordable Care Act, rescuing the landmark health care law from the latest efforts by Republican-led states to dismantle it.

The court ruled 7-2 that the red states and two individuals who brought the dispute do not have the legal standing to challenge the constitutionality of the law's individual mandate to buy health insurance and ordered the case to be dismissed. Justices Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch dissented. Justice Stephen Breyer delivered the majority opinion for the court.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/supreme-court-obamacare-affordable-care-act-opinion/

Even with the 3 Trump appointees, the challenge yet again failed. A lot of time is spend trying to repeal Obamacare and not enough time to actually create an alternate health plan.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but I've had the impression that protestors or anti-Putin types in Russia were pretty nearly all leftover communists, pussy-riot types, or possibly disgruntled oligarch types.

Are there any other kinds of disaffected people in Putin's Russia?
