You may or may not be concerned with economy and durability. However,
I own a 1996 VW Passat TDI (turbo diesel)
It has 254,000 miles on it. The body is in very good shape, but does have a few bubbles around some edges.
This past winter, left outdoors, no block heater or auxiliary devices, started with the temperature at 15 degrees below zero farenheit. It burns less than a quart of oil between 8 -to 10,000 mile oil changes (synthetic 5 - 30 weight). It still gets 45 mpg going 75-80mph.

Why is it that farmerman has this puzzling need to incessantly rave about the power of his leaf blower?

That's what farmers do gustav. I thought you were one
too? Pulled our legs, ha?
Take the Mercedes Prince, it's comfortable, even on those
lousy british roads.

Our roads may well be lousy but they lead to some very nice places.

I know spendius. So far, I've only seen a few of them,
but they're breath taking beautiful places.

you are absolutely right, farmerman. it had a 99cc engine producing about 4.5 hp ... it did about 65 km/m max ... downhill ... with the wind at your back !
but it was impressive enough to allow me to get to know the future mrs h (in those days most germans were lucky if they could afford a bycicle or bycicle with "auxiliary" engine). who knows, maybe we'll be back to it before too long ? hbg

I like beige interior - couldn't get beige leather with my blue car, so.
(Since every third car here [still] is silver, my last two were silver, I've changed back to blue.)

The probkem with blue is that it dirt shows on it too much (and I am notmuch for cleaning cars all the time)
Silver hides dust better.

Too much? Half on hour on the street = car wash.

I didn't need to wash it more than some take a shower (= every christmas time).

If the car is to negotiate the London traffic, maybe you would be better off with just a little runaround......................

...and he doesn't want women either
Beige interior gets dirty fast. Then of course, if you
don't have dogs and kids (like me), it should be doable.
MB has a lighter blue they call Orion Blue metalic, that's
quite nice.

1984, lapis blue with light beige leather interior, only 137K miles, for sale. It will cruise along all day at 130 Km/h until it runs out of gas. If you buy it you have to keep the Ted Nugent sticker in the rear window.
