Oxford University has opened a new department dedicated to dealing with immunity to antibiotics.

It should have been done a long time ago, and is one of the few things we can thank the pandemic for.

Well, we're pretty much at the one year point in the US. 400k dead, high unemployment but a raging stock market, an outgoing President who owes much of his loss to his poor management of the pandemic, two vaccines rolling out. If you want an interesting read, go back through this topic. It is interesting to see where we were in March and April (and compared to most threads, this one has been reasonably tame, thanks to all.)

@engineer,
So this is what you look like! Until now, there have only been computer graphics of the coronavirus. Now, Austrian researchers have photographed SARS-CoV-2 for the first time.

This picture is taken from 3-D images of real SARS-CoV-2 virus from snap-frozen samples. They come from the company Nanographics, a spin-off of the Vienna University of Technology. They are based on data from researchers at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

The Chinese scientists had succeeded in extracting, scanning and digitizing intact SARS-CoV-2 virus particles in samples. In the process, the scientists managed to preserve the spike proteins of the virus samples in their structure as best as possible.

On the nanographics images, the coronavirus samples are closely packed together, but individual viruses can also be viewed in isolation, in this picture.

They are just trying to make excuses for Joe Biden's incompetence.

My parents and grandma just got their vaccinations a half hour ago. The vaccines had been distributed by the Trump Administration.

@oralloy,
theyre only about 40 million short by this time. Even the Trump "Covid general" admitted it was a pile of BS. Im sure Biden will have a plan by next week, rather tha lying about it like Trump did.

@oralloy,
Ahaha! So he has not gotten through even 2 days on the job and he’s a lousy President? BWAHAHAHA!

Furthermore, Trump fomented an insurrection which resulted in 6 deaths and an invasion by domestic terrorists but he gets off Scott free? There’s a firms grasp on reality for you.

Lovely! States are bypassing Trumps boondoggle COVID vaccine “planned rollout” and going directly themselves to the pharmaceutical companies. He had done nothing about implementing the rollout and lied.

@oralloy,
As far as your hero, Trump, He is a total moronic asshole. He had no idea in hell about the job he was assigned to do and didnt really give a **** unless he could personally benefit. He has the intelligence of a licentious insectivore, and the morals of a barnyard cock.

'Course youre too infatuated with that moron to even think about upcoming responses to his many crimes against the state.

Why not join him in Elba?

@farmerman,
For the most part, we have avoided ruining this thread with garbage. Just ignore this stuff and we can keep it that way.

Wrong again. My parents and grandma just got vaccinated this morning with vaccine that was distributed by Mr. Trump.

That would make a lot more sense if people wanting the vaccine were able to get it.

@Region Philbis,
How about Budweiser lay on a party for the anti-vaxxers, ply them with free booze until they're comatose and then vaccinate them?

Biden announces purchase of 200M vaccine doses

With those additional doses, Biden said there would be enough to fully
vaccinate 300 million Americans -- nearly the entire US population --
by the end of summer or early fall.

As part of the new efforts announced Tuesday, the US will buy 100 million
more doses from Pfizer/BioNTech and 100 million more from Moderna --
the two-dose vaccines that have been granted emergency use authorization
by the US Food and Drug Administration. Pfizer and Moderna are working
to step up production, and Biden said that the additional doses will be
available this summer.
