Booster for the balance sheet: vaccine manufacturer Biontech earns billions in the third quarter. Not only investors are happy.

The Corona vaccine manufacturer Biontech generated a net profit of around 3.2 billion euros in the third quarter. This was announced by the company. This brought the profit for the first nine months of the year to a good 7.1 billion euros. A year ago, losses of around 210 million and 352 million euros respectively had been incurred.

The company is benefiting above all from the success of the Corona vaccine Corminaty, which Biontech produces together with its US partner Pfizer. Between July and September, the company's turnover rose to almost 6.1 billion euros. In the same period last year, it had been 67.5 million euros. In total, the turnover between January and the end of September was 13.44 billion euros - significantly more than last year, when it was just under 140 million euros. The company also expects growth for the next year: it has raised its turnover forecast to around 16 to 17 billion euros. This is also due to the booster vaccinations that are now being carried out in many places.

The city of Mainz, where Biontech is based, also benefits from the company's high revenues. Instead of the planned minus of 36 million euros, the capital of Rhineland-Palatinate will probably have a surplus of 1.09 billion euros at the end of the year, said Günter Beck, head of the finance department of the Green Party. He spoke of a "sensational" development.
[... ... ...]
The city also wants to give something to Biontech and the other companies: the trade tax rate is to be lowered from currently 440 points to 310 and thus to the level of the neighbouring and prosperous Ingelheim. The city council is to decide on the planned reduction before the end of November.

Denmark ditched its Covid rules two months ago and celebrated it with a huge "freedom day".
Now it's joined other EU nations in mulling new restrictions, even stricter than in many neighbouring countries.

@Walter Hinteler,
A Swiss economics professor is proposing that unvaccinated Corona patients should pay their own hospital bills in future or take out appropriate insurance. "The fact is that unvaccinated people have a much higher risk of ending up in hospital - and these treatments are very expensive," Marius Brülhart, a professor at the University of Lausanne, told Swiss radio and television. He added that those who could be vaccinated against the coronavirus but declined to do so could take out supplementary insurance. He estimated the average cost of a hospital stay with a Covid 19 infection in Switzerland at up to 30,000 Swiss Francs (28,500 Euros/$28,450).

"Non-vaccination is now a free and conscious decision," Brülhart tweeted. Unvaccinated people therefore consciously take a higher risk. In accident insurance, too, there is the principle that people who participate in high-risk sports pay a higher share of the costs or insure the additional risk.

The Southeast Asian city state of Singapore has already introduced this: As of 8 December, people who refuse a Corona vaccination of their own free will will have to pay for the costs of hospital care if they become infected.

Wild Conspiracy Theory Linking Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine To ‘Lucifer’ Goes Viral

Quote:
Quote:
Melissa Strickler – Former quality assurance and quality control manager at Pfizer

“Pfizer whistleblower, Melissa Strickler, reveals that the vaccine glows. She suggests that the glowing components are SM-102 (Luciferase) and graphene oxide.”
Source: LifeSiteNews (via Twitter), October 19, 2021

A recent flurry of social media activity regarding the Pfizer vaccine seems aimed at worsening vaccine hesitancy among Christians, particularly evangelicals.

A clip that has gained traction on social media includes excerpts from an interview that Melissa Strickler, a former quality assurance and quality control manager at Pfizer, gave to LifeSiteNews, a “pro-life” news website that has previously spread COVID-19 disinformation.

Earlier, Strickler falsely claimed that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for COVID-19 may contain fetal cells.

In the interview, Strickler claimed that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine “glows.” She added that the only components which could make the vaccine glow “are SM-102, which is called Luciferase, and graphene oxide.”

When asked to describe what she means by glows, Strickler replied: “It looks like someone took a blue glow stick, cracked it open, and poured it in the vial,” adding that it “only glows if there’s light and if it’s around a dark surrounding.”

Emerald Robinson, the White House correspondent for Newsmax, was among those who retweeted the clip, rhetorically asking her Twitter followers: “Dear Christians: why would you inject something with LUCIFERASE into your body?”

The implication, of course, is that there is a connection between luciferase and Lucifer (the devil).

The claim that the Pfizer vaccine contains any ingredients that make it glow in the dark is false. Attempts to connect the vaccine to the enzyme luciferase are intended to stoke fears connected to the end-time beliefs held by some Christian denominations.

First, Comirnaty, the trade name for the COVID-19 messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNTech, does not contain SM-102 or graphene oxide.

A full list of the vaccine ingredients is available on the Food and Drug Administration website.

Those ingredients include salts used to maintain the acidic balance in your body, and sugar, which healthcare experts say helps the vaccine’s molecules maintain their shape during the freezing process.

Comirnaty also contains lipids, fatty molecules that do not dissolve in water. They are used in lipid nanoparticle delivery systems, which help bring the fragile mRNA into the target cells.

SM-102 is not among the lipids used in Comirnaty.

The Moderna vaccine does contain SM-102. However, Strickler was incorrect to say SM-102 “is called Luciferase.”

SM-102 is a “proprietary ionizable lipid” that Moderna made for its vaccine.

SM-102 is combined with other lipids to form lipid nanoparticles (very tiny pieces of matter made of lipids that do not dissolve in water).

Studies have found SM-102 to be "optimal for the intramuscular administration of vaccines.”

Luciferase refers to a group of enzymes that produce bioluminescence. Enzymes are proteins that speed up chemical reactions. Bioluminescence occurs when livings things produce and emit light, as commonly seen in fireflies.

French pharmacologist Raphael Dubois first coined the term luciferase while conducting experiments on bioluminescence in the 19th century.

According to Nebraska Medicine, a research partner of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, “SM-102 is sometimes mixed with chemicals that aren’t meant for human consumption” when used for purposes other than medicine.

For example, SM-102, which contains luciferase-encoding mRNA, can be used for non-invasive monitoring of cells.

Virologists have also used luciferase to develop better diagnostic tests for COVID-19.

But vaccine manufacturers did not put the enzyme in any COVID-19 vaccine.

Previous conspiracy theories involving SM-102 have deceptively used the warning label for chloroform when describing SM-102 to make people think it is hazardous to their health.

Likewise, no World Health Organization-approved vaccine contains graphene oxide, a compound of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen that is used in some biomedical applications that may be toxic.

According to Health Desk, an initiative of the technology non-profit Meedan, the ingredients of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines were tested by outside parties and “not found to contain any graphene oxide in their formulas, including their lipid nanoparticles.”

This is not the first attempt to link COVID-19 vaccines to end-time conspiracy theories.

Luciferase sounds similar to Lucifer, a name which some Christians interpret to refer to the devil. However, Lucifer literally means light bringer/bearer in Latin.

Many medical terms come from Greek or Latin. Luciferase is derived from the Latin words for “light” (lux) and to bring/carry (ferre).

In any case, attempts to tie the COVID-19 vaccines to satanic plots, and/or to imply that they contain ingredients hazardous to human health, are false.

Yet Robinson has attempted to spread that very fear. In a now-deleted tweet, she falsely claimed: “Dear Christians: the vaccines contain a bioluminescent marker called LUCIFERASE so that you can be tracked. Read the last book of the New Testament to see how this ends.”

Robinson has also spread the Great Reset conspiracy, which posits that a global elite is using the COVID-19 pandemic to dismantle the United States, the system of capitalism, and American society.

Polygraph.info reached out to Newsmax to determine if Robinson’s repeated false claims violated their social media policy or code of ethics. Newsmax has not responded.

‘Detox’ routines won’t undo Covid vaccine, experts tell anti-vaxxers
Quote:
Medical experts are speaking out against Covid-19 vaccine “detoxes” that some inaccurately claim can remove the effects of vaccinations received under mandates and other public health rulings.

In one TikTok video that has received hundreds of thousands of views, Carrie Madej, an osteopath based in Georgia, falsely claims a bath containing baking soda, epsom salts and the cleaning agent borax will “detox the vaxx” from anyone who has received a jab.

Experts say such a bath could irritate the skin and eyes – but will not remove the effects of a Covid vaccine.

In Kansas, Dana Hawkinson, medical director of infection prevention and control for the state university health system, told the Kansas City Star borax was “potentially caustic and harmful”.

Angela Rasmussen, a virologist and adjunct professor at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, told NBC News: “Once you’re injected, the lifesaving vaccination process has already begun. You can’t unring a bell. It’s just not physically possible.”

Anti-vaccine groups have also claimed self-administered cupping – an alternative therapy involving suction that has no proven benefits – can remove the effects of Covid vaccines. Social media posts providing instructions on how to “un-inject” a vaccine have been shared.

Unproven and sometimes dangerous vaccine “detox” remedies, including restrictive diets and supplements, have been popular in anti-vaccination circles for years. Social media, coupled with politicized resistance to Covid-19 vaccine mandates imposed by businesses and government agencies, has increased the spread of misinformation.

TikTok in particular has become a platform for anti-vaccine influencers. Madej’s video was removed but users were able to share it by making duets, a feature by which users can add reactions or context side-by-side with an original video.

The Trump White House silenced health experts trying to warn the public about COVID-19, new testimony says

• New documents describe how the Trump administration blocked US efforts to fight COVID-19.
• Health officials said they were blocked from hold press briefings as the pandemic worsened.
• One — Dr. Deborah Birx — said up to 40% of COVID deaths may have been avoided with a better approach.

Quote:
The Trump administration blocked the CDC from warning the public about the worsening COVID-19 pandemic, according to testimony from US health officials.

Leading figures in the US government response to the pandemic described struggling to get their message out because of interference from Trump officials in interviews with a House committee investigating how the pandemic was handled.

Their comments feature in interview transcripts which were published Friday by The Washington Post.

One interviewee was Dr. Nancy Messonnier, a leading CDC official. She said she was prevented from making media appearances after she warned about the rapid spread of COVID-19 in early 2020.
The warnings she was able to made led to reprimands from officials including then-Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, she said.

"Our intention was certainly to get the public's attention about the likelihood … that it was going to spread and that we thought that there was a high risk that it would be disruptive,"

"I specifically remember being upset after the call [with Azar]", she told investigators.

Kate Galatas, a senior CDC communications official, said the White House repeatedly blocked the CDC's media requests, including a planned April 2020 briefing.

Dr. Deborah Birx, the former coordinator for the White House coronavirus task force, accused the administration of seeking to limit COVID-19 testing to give the impression that there were fewer cases.

Birx said that Trump and his officials ignored health measures she estimated could have saved thousands of lives.

She said: "I believe if we had fully implemented the mask mandates, the reduction in indoor dining, getting friends and family to understand the risk of gathering in private homes, and we had increased testing, we probably could have decreased fatalities into the 30 percent less to 40 percent less range."

In a previous interview with the subcommittee, Dr. Birx stated that better decisions by the White House could have limited COVID-19 deaths by as much as 40%.

A representative for Trump did not address the claims that his officials disrupted attempts to curb the pandemic, instead offering a general defense of his record on the virus.

Liz Harrington, a Trump spokeswoman, told The Post: "President Trump led an unprecedented effort to successfully combat the coronavirus, delivering PPE, hospital beds, treatments, and three vaccines in record time."

She claimed that the Biden administration had done a worse job that Trump, which she said was being obscured by the media.

Covid Live Updates: Austria Locks Down the Unvaccinated as Virus Resurges in Europe

The restrictions, affecting residents as young as 12, were the toughest of a wave of new rules in the E.U. against those who have not received Covid shots. India said it would allow vaccinated visitors from nearly 100 countries, and Singapore, South Korea and Cambodia also relaxed travel rules.

Here’s what you need to know:

Austria’s new lockdown applies only to the unvaccinated.

Unvaccinated Austrians ages 12 and older awoke on Monday morning confined to their homes for all but essential activities, as one of the strictest coronavirus lockdowns in Europe went into effect to battle a surge in infections.

Under new rules announced by the government on Sunday, adults and minors 12 and older who have not been vaccinated or recovered from a coronavirus infection cannot go outside except to buy groceries, seek medical care or travel to school or work. They are the toughest of a new wave of restrictions across Europe, as governments try to contain near-record numbers of cases.

“Our task as the federal government is to protect the people of Austria. We are fulfilling this responsibility,” Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg told a news conference on Sunday.

The move was described as temporary, but the government did not immediately say how long it would remain in effect.

About 65 percent of Austria’s 8.9 million people are vaccinated, one of the lowest rates in western Europe, according to the Our World in Data Project at the University of Oxford. Over the past two weeks, average daily cases have risen by 134 percent to nearly 11,000, the highest since the pandemic began.

Mr. Schallenberg said that the vaccination rate was a significant cause of the spike in infections, and added that cases among the vaccinated were decreasing. Since February, unvaccinated people account for 83 percent of symptomatic infections, according to Austrian officials.

Speaking on Monday, Mr. Schallenberg said that there were no immediate plans to expand restrictions for vaccinated people. That ran counter to a suggestion by his health minister, who said that the government might consider a more generalized lockdown, such as closing bars or restaurants.
Austria Coronavirus Cases

“My aim is very clearly to get the unvaccinated to get themselves vaccinated and not to lock down the vaccinated,” Mr. Schallenberg told Austria’s Ö1 radio, according to The Associated Press. “In the long term, the way out of this vicious circle we are in — and it is a vicious circle, we are stumbling from wave to lockdown, and that can’t carry on ad infinitum — is only vaccination.”

Europe, which threw off lockdowns this summer but has seen vaccination rates level off, is “back at the epicenter of the pandemic globally,” Hans Kluge, the regional director for the World Health Organization, said last week. The continent accounted for 59 percent of the world’s newly reported coronavirus cases last week, and for nearly half the world’s Covid-related deaths, the organization said.

Over the weekend, the three parties that are set to form the next government in Germany agreed to impose stricter rules against unvaccinated people, including mandating that they obtain a negative coronavirus test before traveling on buses or trains, as infection rates reach new records. Spain’s Basque region is also expected on Tuesday to announce new restrictions on gatherings in municipalities with the highest infection rates.

But Austria’s move stands out as among the toughest imposed in Europe or elsewhere in the world, experts said. In Britain, where cases have risen sharply since May, the Conservative lawmaker Oliver Dowden said on Sky News on Monday that the government would not follow Austria’s lead, saying that “we have no plans to have that kind of differentiated approach between” between those who are vaccinated and those who are not.

Robert West, a professor of health psychology at University College London, said that Austria’s rules might encourage more people to get vaccinated, but risked eroding trust in the government.

“It’s sort of like jumping in with the nuclear option without having considered the other options,” he said, adding that it would have been better to address the causes of vaccine skepticism among parts of the Austrian public.

“I think this is a disaster on all fronts,” he said.

Isabella Kwai and Raphael Minder contributed reporting.

'I definitely was not comfortable': Vaccinated IU students reject unvaccinated roommates

During the 2020-21 school year — with the exception of small number of granted roommate requests — all students living in Indiana University dorm rooms lived alone because of COVID-19 precautions.

Random roommate assignments, a freshman year tradition at colleges across the U.S., were once again allowed this year at IU. Although IU mandated all students receive the COVID-19 vaccine, not every student has gotten it.

While random assignments returned, IU updated its policy to deal with vaccine concerns.

“One of the stipulations that got written into that was that students who lived in the residence halls wouldn't have to live with someone who wasn't vaccinated or had a mismatch in status,” said Sara Ivey Lucas, IU director of residential life.

Austria locks down unvaccinated amid COVID resurgence
Source: newsnationnow.com

Updated: Nov 15, 2021 / 08:28 AM CST

BERLIN (AP) — Austria took what its leader called the “dramatic” step Monday of implementing a nationwide lockdown for unvaccinated people who haven’t recently had COVID-19, perhaps the most drastic of a string of measures being taken by European governments to get a massive regional resurgence of the coronavirus under control.

The move, which took effect at midnight, prohibits people 12 years old and older who haven’t been vaccinated or recently recovered from leaving their homes except for basic activities such as working, grocery shopping, going for a walk — or getting vaccinated.
Austria orders nationwide lockdown for unvaccinated

The lockdown is initially being imposed until Nov. 24 in the Alpine country of 8.9 million. It doesn’t apply to children under 12 because they cannot yet officially get vaccinated — though the capital, Vienna, on Monday opened up vaccinations for under-12s as part of a pilot project, and reported high demand ...
