And a fourth employee resigned the Department.

I understand the 4th resigning the Department.

But how do you quit an assignment? Your supervisor assigns it to you. Then you either do it or leave the department.

Those attorneys were special prosecutors brought in for the investigation.

Am I mistaken in believeing that resigning is leaving the department.

My understanding is that three of them "resigned from working on the Roger Stone case" while the fourth resigned from the Department.

I previously thought that an employee is required to accept the case assigned to him.
