Nearly 7 pm here in Melbourne, Oz. And it's still something like 16 C outside! Surprised Could this be <gasp> Spring? Very Happy At last?

That was the good news. Now for the bad. It's windy as hell out there! Wild!

Yo! G'day. The door was open, so I invited myself in.
We enjoyed a good cricket match here yesterday, which England scraped, but I diddn't come in to make any trouble. The Aussies played well and made them fight for every inch of the way. If Flintoff hadn't got Man of the Match you'd have had to give it to Warne. Good stuff, and it has re-awakened an interest in the game over here.

Anyway, my dear wife Fiona has recently begun to chat (via MSN Messenger) with a guy in NSW (hey that's nearly an anagram) who used to be her boss when she worked there. Isn't that a fascinating snipppet of news? She was thrilled to be able to set it up, and they send photos and everthing.
Modern technonogy, eh?

Yay!

Yes - the communication stuff we have now is soooooo good.

It was bloody WARM here - but now there has been a storm, and the weird feeling has left the air.

Global warming sucks.

A Bollywood movie set in Melbourne, G? What a brave & innovative concept! Laughing I will definitely go see it! Then we can compare notes, hey? Very Happy And I'm certain I'll be in there somewhere, loitering ....
Melbourne is a very civilized city, G. Very Happy Somewhat more "British" than Sydney, but becoming very, very multicultural. I hope that the film gets that aspect of the place across. When I walk down "my" bit of Sydney Road (a main thoroughfare that goes for miles) I swear, in no time I can come across at 20 different varieties of nationality. It's pretty interesting, I can tell you! Very Happy

G'day, McTag! Very Happy

When margo arrives she'll be able to talk sense with you about the cricket. Me, I know very little, really, apart from the fact that sports commentators here seem to be hysterically excited about it at the moment. There's also much talk about the Oz team being "tired", perhaps? So I gather there's a real competition b/n Oz & England at last? Very Happy

It's great that Fiona has made that connection again. It's SO exciting the first time you manage it! I know. I was exactly the same. Good for her! Very Happy

I love Melbourne!

Trying to get the damned man to do a weekend there....sigh.

The multiculturalism thing is something I am really enjoying about working in the centre of the city - so many Aboriginal people, and Africans, and Chinese, and Afghans, and European folk of various origins, and so on. Whole bus stop crowds are African kids - or Asian kids - or some damn thing.

It's great.

Different races were a bit thin on the grounnd where I used to work. Wall to wall Anglo misery, pretty much.

I exaggerate, of course - but you catch my drift!

We lost the Ashes, eh?

Yay! This aggressive Australian dominance has been SUCH a bore!

I KNOW about wall to wall Anglo misery on the job, Deb! Boy, do I!

But now I must leave. Can't procrastinate any longer. Gotta do that damn work for tomorrow! <sigh>

Nighty night.

By the way, you haven't lost the Ashes yet. That comes next week.

A win the The Oval (the last match) would make the series drawn, and The Ashes to stay in Oz. (Where they have been since Adam was a lad).
Hence high excitement levels here...sorry about that, to all you non-sports-lovers out there.

If the Ashes are lost by Australia McTag there will be rioting in the streets, burning cars, buildings looted....well maybe not, but there will be long faces, drawn brows, mutterings of "we wuz robbed" and calls for Ricky Ponting to be sent to Tasmania. Wait a minute, he comes from Tasmania.

As I was saying there will be calls for Ricky Ponting to be incarcerated in a small island off the southern coast of Tasmania where his only companions will be small wallabies and muttonbirds.

The Australian cricket team will be met at Sydney Airport by hordes of riot police. Extra police will be flown in from around the country and sworn in as special constables in New South Wales to deal with the anticipated violent attacks on the team. Team members will be given bodyguards for the rest of their lives.

The Australian media will suffer collective apoplexy as it simultaneously seeks to denounce Ponting and the team while at the same time trying to take as much gloss of the win for England as is humanly possible.

The nation will then enter a period of mourning which may last years.

Sore losers? Us? Naaaaaaaahhhhh!!!! Laughing

You left out the bit about invading Pom-land - all those Aussies there, living and working quietly - or not so quietly - will rise up and torch the whol;e place - the only chance some of them have to get warm! Your pubs will have no workers, your offices will fall apart - and Mrs Fiona will be blamed for all the problems!

But....we haven't lost yet...............

Bastards!

P-p-p-p-pubs with no workers? FREE BEER!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laughing

I must ring Qantas right now Very Happy

But good point margo - however I fear they may be awake to the plan.

There have been years of undetected infiltration - the first unit if I remember was 1 Commando (Rolf Harris Detachment); followed by the 3rd Regiment, the Vincent Balls; reconnaissance was performed by the 1st Seekers ( Embarrassed )......

Torch the whole place? Brings a new meaning to The Ashes Shocked
