On behalf of all the other tattooed long-haired people in the world, I'll just mention that I'm going to continue to be audacious. <If I cut my hair, will I be less audacious?>

Frank Sinatra? a good example?
Yikes.

"It's just, people like this, you know...they get all they want so they don't really understand...about life like Frank does. I mean...when you've loved and lost the way Frank has you know what life's about."

Your memory is faulty.

Yeah. You are a fount of correct information.

HEADLINE: Catholic Church now accepts gays.

(LOL!!!)

The Church went amok when she did it. Remember NBC's response?

<The one that actually happened, not the delusional one you invent to make yourself feel better.>

The Catholic Church does accept gays and always has. "The Church" went amok? How do you define "the church?" You obviously do not know squat about the Catholoc Church.

They never changed. Obvioulsy you are not Catholic. Are you gay?

Stop by the Gay Pride Fest on Pride Day. I am womanning the Most Holy Redeemer beer concession between 1:00 and 4:00. We have a float in the parade and have had for years.

Umm...somehow I missed Jesus's condemnation of gays.

No offense, but if you're Catholic, you likely missed a lot about Jesus. I think the Pope and Mary headline at the Catholic Church.

We heteros will let you discuss our issues even though you're not 'in the group.'

Obviously, that means you'll have to get used to us discussing gay, Catholic stuff.

Like how the Catholic Church denies gay people Communion...

It defies reason that you pretend as though it's not happening. I don't think there are too many people here that are getting a kick out of it--but denying it is nuts.

Not to argue with the point that the media in general is shaking in their boots after the whole wardrobe malfunction. I personally don't believe that this or any other administration has the chokehold on them as others do. But as for the MTV issue, I think it may have more to with the network worried about how the SPONSORS may react. Its all about the money.

Chrissee and Lash,
Just so we can put an end to your whole Gay and Catholic argument....
Quote:
The church hierarchy speaks with a single voice. Priests, bishops, archbishops and cardinals are in fact prohibited from publicly expressing views contrary to the church's current official viewpoint. They are even prohibited from suggesting that any church policies need to be changed. This assures that it is mainly official church pronouncements, and statements that are in agreement with the church's beliefs, which reach the public.

Most conservative religious institutions teach that homosexuality is a chosen, addictive behavior. However, the Roman Catholic church accepts the findings of almost all human sexuality researchers and mental health therapists that a minority of humans have a homosexual orientation. This is not something that they choose; rather they discover it after puberty. In other matters related to homosexuality, the Church agrees with other conservative religious groups. They regard homosexual orientation to be "objectively disordered" and view homosexual practices as very serious "sins gravely contrary to chastity". 3

These beliefs are grounded in their concept of natural law. The church once taught that the sole purpose of sex -- and marriage -- was procreation. They have modified this stance in recent decades by admitting that also has a unitive function; it bonds married couples closer together and strengthens their relationship. But, since the Church still regards the main purpose of sex to be procreation, they insist that any ethical sexual act must be open to conception. On this basis, they forbid the use of artificial methods of birth control, and consider any sexual behavior other than intercourse between a husband and wife to be a grave moral sin. Forbidden practices include masturbation, pre-marital sex, post-marital sex, extra-marital sex and all same-sex behaviors.

They teach that "...men and women with homosexual tendencies 'must be accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided'. " 3 However, they believe that there are other forms of discrimination against gays and lesbians which are just. Access to marriage or the formation of sexually active committed relationships are not options that they consider open to gays and lesbians. The chuch teaches that persons with a homosexual orientation "are called, like other Christians, to live the virtue of chastity," and a life of loneliness and lack of sexual intimacy. 3

That is absolutely not true. I am about as gay they get and I receive communion every Sunday. You are not a Catholic and do not understand Catholic theology and, furthermore, your posts smack of Catholic bashing.

"The Church" is not the Pope or Mary or anyone else. The Church is the people.

tommrr,

Your contribution is appreciated buit there are a lot more issues that can't be put to rest with a single blurb.

When I have more time I will start a new topic, for now, this is getting way off topic.

I was away from the Church for a longtime and was a Catholic basher myself. Overall, the Church is a pretty easy target. But some of this bashing is obviously motivated by pure bigotry. The same type of bigotry that spurs anti-semitic hate.

system's a local band, so i try to be supportive. but i've pretty much had enough of the "lookit me! i'm so psycho! " schtick, though sod isn't alone on the bandwagon. samething with the "son of GWAR" vocal howling. not on principle, but the parade of carbon copy duplications. snore.

kasabian is kinda cool.

You're forgetting which gender has historically occupied the political arena. Old men lust for sweaty nubile young women--good luck ever seeing that imagery pulled from MTV.

I suppose you are right. But it doesn't make it right.

The best show on MTV or VH1 was Surviving Nugent. It got canned by VH1's brass after complaints from bunny huggers.
