Ever wonder where the snot comes from?

So. I'm sick.

So sick that when I went to the doc yesterday, I actually asked her how much *mucus* could fit in one head. She laughed and took my temperature.

So. Tonight I'm googling "how much snot" ...

and the best answer (so far) is

Quote:
The reason you have a seemingly inexhaustible supply of mucus when suffering from a cold is that the mucus-producing cells lining your nasal cavity extract the stuff mostly from your blood, of which needless to say you have a vast supply. The blood transports the raw materials (largely water) from other parts of the body. Fluid from your blood diffuses through the capillary walls and into the cells and moments later winds up in your handkerchief. (This process isn't unique to mucus; blood is the highway for most of your bodily fluids.) Incidentally, you produce less mucus than you may think. One experiment showed that on the peak day of a cold the average person produces about 14 grams of drippings, or roughly half an ounce.

14 grams?
How can that be?
I'm on my second box of Kleenex.

If you're walkin' with your honey
And her nose seems kind of runny
Don't think it's funny
'Cause it's snot . . .

Okay, 27 grams makes an ounce and the really good "stuff" is up over $400 an ounce and 14 grams is close to half an ounce and...and... well now I've forgotten where I was going with all this but thanks for the valuable info.

You didn't happen to ask about diarrhea didja?

and now i ask

why am i less plugged up when i stand up than when i sit down?

and most plugged up when i'm lying down

actually, i understand the lying down part - but standing up different from standing? it's not like the snot runs down inside my legs when i stand up.

does it?

whine, before I left for ABQ, I had about eight weeks of total body asthma, so much so that I went to the md and got my first very own personal inhaler.

Abq, mostly without a symptom after the first few hours. Though I know more about it than I did and don't posit asthma free ness. Still this year it worked.

Just today, hack, hack, plegmy pellet to the air...

Oh, that was because I put on that wool sweater that had been hanging over the chair... dust, y'know.
