I was struck by your statement "concentrate on healing our own country".The government can build bridges, fund education, repair the infrastructure but it cannot legislate morality of exercise mind control. Maybe I misconstrued your statement if so please set me straight.

What the disadvantaged worldwide lack more than anything else is education, oportunity, and example. To a semiliterate desperately existing by wits alone, The Pimp or The Rebel Leader is a superstar. That is what needs to be addressed.

Hmm, Fidel Castro has already evolved from the Rebel Leader to a regular Pimp: Cuba becomes a sex tourism destination once more, just as it was in times of Batista.

I'd probably start with a serious control on lobbying and campaign financing. And if anyone starts pulling that First Amendment dodge....

Lots of luck. There is no way you will ever get congress to kill the goose that lays the golden egg.

Timberlandko, Mr. Castro, I guess, is older than you are. But as a pimp he does not pose any national security threat to the USA, so such a transformation of the Cuban leader may be only blessed. I have not heard about his regime being rogue quite a very long time...

We're the ones who have to do the job Au -- not everything is done for us.

I'm excessively fond of Cuba and not as dismissive of it or Castro as is the PC requirement in the US.

Not too blessed for his own people! Who do matter, you know, despite being citizens of an "enemy" state to the most powerful country on earth!

The only way we can do the job is through the vote. Bur where on earth can we find an honest politician to vote for? Did diogenese ever find the honest man he was searching for?

Au, "honest politician" is either a loser or oxymoron.
There is a joke:
Santa Claus, a Dishonest Politician, an Honest Politician and a Troll were walking along the street and they saw a $100 bill on the ground. Who picked it?
The correct answer is: the Dishonest Politician, since the other three entities do not exist in reality.

How Tres overlooked the part about "treating each person fairly one on one", and me feeling shame, for my inadverant racism, I don't know. Maybe it's hard to see everything I wrote, through those rose-colored glasses. Tres, I thought you would get the point, when I said you might possibly be like a guy who altered my philosophy in life for the better.
...Thanks you guys for getting it, and trying to help interpret.

Booman - I'm sorry if I didn't get it. I thought I read what you wrote carefully, and I tried to offer a positive response.

I think there are probably white people who have had enough bad experiences with black people that they feel justified in assuming they will have bad experiences with all black people. That their prejudice may be backed by personal experience makes it no less a prejudice to me.

All I can offer you is my opinion. If you can find nothing in it you can use, I'm not out anything for having offered it and I hope you don't feel you've lost anything in considering it. It does sadden me to think you took it the wrong way, but I trust you to know what messages you can and cannot use in your life. I'm just another person like you, trying to find his way, and stopping from time to time to tell someone else what I think it is I'm learning as I go. (That means that everything I think I know may be wrong.)
Maybe I do wear rose-colored glasses, but all things considered, I'm going to keep them.

Regards,
TW

Speaking of Castro, wouldn't it be nice if we could catch up with him, in universal health care, and literacy.
...And right now, I can't think of anything more important than toasting my brand new brother....trespassers Will... Drunk Cool

You know that from whom?

Last week I spoke with my friend's sister, who leads quite a great travel agency. She recently visited Cuba, we talked about sex tourism -in general- as well.

Has anyone written a book yet about how Cuba has influenced US politics over the years? It would make a fascinating tale.

While fiction, and not a book devoted to the study, Mario Puzo's Godfather Saga briefly dealt with Cuba/US relations. I suspect the inferences were not far from the truth.
