My, things do go flying over Spendius' head. Have no idea why he's explaining the chances of a terrorist in my living room, let alone "needing" RR, but that pub juice must be strong stuff. I see the discussion has now discended into the realm of "The Vagina Monologues."
Now there's something that has to do with evolution, or is it convolution?

Sounds like evolution to me -- everyone who doesn't understand it is waiting for it to happen right under their noses. They'd also be fascinated with watching snow melt.

Patience isn't really the issue unless one is daunted by actually having to read about evolution. Reading bits-and-pieces and getting too much opinion from cockeyed clergymen could befuddle and frustrate anyone. This can only lead one to get busy and study the subject in more depth. With some on this thread, you must as well ask them to have a glue sandwich and a glass of kerosene.

For starters...

Isa 43:7
Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.

Did you not enjoy the last few posts Ed?

I did. Maybe I just have a warped sense of humour and you have one that Mrs Whitehouse would of approved of. By heck that woman had a dirty mind. She had to pretend that sex was a national disgrace in order to have what she must have felt was a socially acceptable excuse to go on and on about it all the time.

I hope she repented before she passed away. Our ethereal creator is bound to take a dim view of anyone who casts aspersions on His best conjuring trick. One would think so anyway.

What a bottle he mixed for Adam when the silly sod questioned the perfection of His creation. At least Tarzan only stumbled across Jane accidentally during his wanderings. We can all sympathise with that I'm inclined to think.

Anyway Ed-see if you can make me laugh. Do you know any good domestic bliss jokes?

I know you are an expert in these matters Frank and I am hopeless at them but could you explain to me exactly how a man can lie with another man as with a woman. The idea perplexes me. Boy-am I gauche or what?

Hey...he's your god. All I do is quote him. You tell me. Was he just exercising his gums here???

On the other hand:

"Slaves, male and female, you may indeed possess, provided you BUY them from among the neighboring nations. You may also BUY them from among the aliens who reside with you and from their children who are born and reared in your land. Such slaves YOU MAY OWN AS CHATTELS, and leave to your sons as their hereditary property, MAKING THEM PERPETUAL SLAVES. But you shall not lord it harshly over any of the Israelites, your kinsmen." Leviticus 25:44ff

And let us not forget:

"When you march up to attack a city, first offer terms of peace.
If it agrees to your terms of peace and opens its gates to you,
all the people to be found in it shall serve you in forced labor.
But if it refuses to make peace with you and instead offers you
battle, lay siege to it, and when the Lord, your God, delivers it
into your hand, put every male in it to the sword, but the women
and children and livestock and all else in it that is worth
plunder you may take as your booty and you may use this plunder
of your enemies which the Lord, your God, has given you." Deuteronomy 20:10

And let us not forget the rewards God give his brave soldiers;

CHILD VIRGINS!

Quote:
31:6
And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of [every] tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.

31:7
And they warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.

31:8
And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; [namely], Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

31:9
And the children of Israel took [all] the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.

31:10
And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire.

31:11
And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, [both] of men and of beasts.

31:12
And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which [are] by Jordan [near] Jericho.

31:13
And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.

31:14
And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, [with] the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.

31:15
And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?

31:16
Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.

31:17
Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.

31:18
But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

Nice God you guys have.

Not me mate. My God wouldn't use euphemisms like that one quoted. My God would lay it on the line so there was no chance of misinterpretation. I couldn't imagine Her having a view on the matter. She would content Herself with a vague perplexity and a scornful, unblinking gaze of derision such as that which some of us bring to reality television shows where the contestants vie with each other at being humiliated. But we would never dream of lobbying to have them stoned to death.

And the Lord sayeth, takest thou in thy hande the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch,And the Lord spake to them , saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shalt be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thou foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

I read the religionist side of things every bit as much as the science more than half of my life. In fact, more. But people such as yourself, RR, are obstructionists, not seekers of knowledge.

It's interesting to read these things without the holier than thou gobbledygook and see what really happened...

Some guy named Moses heard voices in his head, claimed it was God, and incited a large mob to attack some people they didn't like. He gave the mob permission to do what HE obviously thought was right (because we all know there wasn't any God whispering in his ear, even if he believed it). So Moses basically told these people to kill all the men, pillage all the goods, keep all the nubile women as sex slaves, kill all the little boys, and raise all the little girls for future sex slaves.

It almost makes you wonder if the whole story was written as some form of violent sexual pornography.

Some feminists think that is exactly what we do. And we are not bad at smiting as well.

The news often looks like the Bible. They both distort the reality for those who allow them to. You are being a bit selective. You might ask yourself why you are so focussed on these topics in what is, after all, a very large book.

A fringe element can always be found which sees things in an extreme way. Just look at yourself.

It's one thing to have it happen, the world is a rough place. It's another thing to follow a book which ordains the practice. And that of course, was the point which led to the quotes being posted.

Yes they do. And you do quite a bit of distorting yourself.

It was a responce to the part of the book that was posted. Nothing more.
