Intrepid,

Can I ask you a question? (Oops! Just did!) Have you ever pictured in your mind what God does look like? It's odd, but I have never been able to do that.

No, I haven't. Just as I have not tried to picture what anyone on this board looks like, or anyone that I speak to on the telephone. I would be making blind assumptions as to what God or anyone looked like since I do not have a frame of reference to go by. Having said that, I know that God exists.

You do, do you?

How do you know?

LMBO! (Momma Angel just fell off her chair!) And round ???? coming up!

I respond to them all, Intrepid. I respond to them all.

By the way...

...I asked you how you know...not whether or not you think you know.

I already know that you think you know there is a God.

Since there is always the possibility that you are deluding yourself...and since I have seen you to be a very careful poster and one heck of an intelligent person...

...I was wondering how you have determined that you are not deluding yourself about this.

So...tell us, Intrepid: How do you KNOW there is a god?

(Gotta be honest with ya, ole friend...I've asked several people this same question...including several who KNOW there are no gods...

...and none has given a response that makes any sense.

Sure am hoping you can beat the jinx.

Frank, you and your friends are wrong. You and they have been affected by the scepticism of a sceptical age. You do not believe except you see. You think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by your minds. All minds, Frank, whether they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Frank, there is a God. My God. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. How dreary would be the world if there were no God to praise. It would be as dreary as if there were no Franks. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The external light with which love fills the world would be extinguished.

Yes, Frank, I believe in God. I believe that he gave his Son for the forgiveness of our sins. I believe that Jesus prepares a place for us where we will dwell with him and the Father for eternity.

What if I am wrong, you ask? No matter, Frank. If my believe has been for naught and I live my life according to the teachings of Jesus, I will have made a difference in this world that I otherwise would not have made. I will be blessed and happy.

Good for you.

But I was not asking about what you "believe."

You said you KNOW there is a God...

...and I've asked you (three times now) how you KNOW that.

If you would prefer not to answer...no problem.

But if you are going to answer...could you include a bit of answer in your answer?

Intrepid, Your expressing feelings/emotions, but not proof or facts about the existence of your god.

Frank has already explained that the bible is really a tribal/cultural book that predates the bible god/jesus by several thousands of years.

I would also like to see proof of your god - over all your feely-goody emotional outbursts of his kindness, generosity, love, and devotion, since we can also assign those adjectives to Superman and Blondie.

You can stick to your comic books, CI. Anything beyond that may tax original thought. So Frank has explained about tribal/culture etc. I will leave it to you to prove that for us. Just give us some proof of this without clinging to Frank. C'mon CI... you can do it. I believe you can.

C.I.,

If I were you, I wouldn't be too anxious to get absolute proof of God given the way you feel about Him. You want proof of His existence when He created you? You (IMO) are putting yourself up on a pretty tall pedestal there. I pray you don't fall off.

Emotional outbursts of kindness, generosity, love, and devotion? You have a problem with these characteristics? If you do, then I suggest you take another look at the real problem here.

Why do you feel the need to rail against Christians? What makes you so angry? The fact that we are happy? The fact that we want to do what is right? Why are you so angry at Christians?

MA, We disagree on many levels. I was not created by any god. My parents had sex, and I was the product of that union.

I'm not angry at all; just asking some questions that requests some bonafide answers to A) the existence of your god, and B) my railing is not against christians, but most of the religious on these boards are christians. What better way to get answers?

I've had the habit of calling a spade a spade at the risk of offending people. Having worked in management most of my life, when employees refuse to accept any instruction or warnings, I wasn't in the habit of beating around the bush to make people feel good. Firmness and fairness was always uppermost in my mind, but some employees continued to neglect the warnings.

I don't need absolute proof of your god - just enough that goes beyond one book written over two thousand years ago.

Is that as far back as you go? To your parents? Who created them, and who created them, etc.?

If you are not angry, then why do you use words that you know are offensive (you have been told time and time again that they are) and yet you seem not to care. You don't have to believe what Christians or anybody else believes. But you have treated the Christians on this thread with rancor, disdain, and contempt. You accept nothing that we offer you as an answer. You ask questions, yes. But you have dismissed every answer we have given you and you have even tried to use the Bible to dismiss our answers to you.

You can call a spade a spade, that's fine. But it is not find to refer to the God of our understanding as comic book, etc. That is disrespectful and you know it is. I feel that is why you do it.

If you had talked to me like that if I were working for you, I'd have filed a suit against you. None of the Christians on these threads have called what you believe comic, stupid, or anything else. If you will notice, all we do is counter with what we believe. We have no need to try to belittle you. We ask only the same consideration.

I guess I don't understand something about you. You seem to refer to a lot of what Frank says, but you seem to not have noticed he has changed the way he says it. Frank has become a charming conversationalist with a sense of humor without making me feel as though he is looking down on me. So, if Frank can do that and you admire him so much, then please, take heed of what he is doing. His posts are so much more easily understood without all the other things.

You said nothing about how you feel about the emotional outbursts of kindness, etc. Do you find those characteristics undesirable? If you do, why? No one is asking you to make anyone feel good. All we are asking for is some common courtesy.

You have apologized for this behavior before and said you wouldn't do it again. Now, I don't know what to believe about you. Which is the real you? The one that can be courteous and discuss things civilly or the one that constantly berates?

If you do not need absolute proof of my God, as you call Him, then stop asking for it. We have given you what we have felt was proof and you dismissed it. Which is it? You want proof or you don't? Or is it you just want Him to prove it to your satisfaction? And that would be because you are what, superior to God, deserving of His proof to you?

1) There is a god. Hypothesis? None
2) Does Frank's wife love him? Hypothesis? Ask his wife.

#1 is impossible to prove. #2 is relatively easy to prove.

How far back does my geneology go? All I could obtain from Japan was only three generations back from my grandfather. Written history in Japan is scarce except for royalty. Gong back a vew hundred generations, I believe all of our ancestors originated in Africa - yours too.

Rancor, disdain and contempt is much better treatment than your god's treatment of innocent humans.

Your so-called answer to me "YOU MUST READ THE WHOLE BOOK" is not considered an answer by anybody.

If you were working for me, I would expect straight answers to my questions. If you failed in that, I would give you a warning in writing, and tell you what the consequences would be for insubordination; all work related, ofcoarse.
