@maporsche,
Yes, there is something there. I don't know what though. Only you can tell why you hate Bernie Sanders sooooo much. It comes across as a bit odd, to be honest, so you might wish to clarify.

Lol, sure man...deny, deny, deny.... I clarified in that thread.

I sure could feel all the respect that you always are sure to give everyone here though Olivier.

Soooo much respect.

@Olivier5,
Hating Bernie Sanders make one an antisemite as much as hating Stephen Miller makes one an antisemite. I hate Netanyahu and I love Gantz, what does that make me? What does that make half of Israel?

You keep talking down to me all the time, every time there's the slightest disagreement. Are you aware it's not possible to agree 100% with others on everything all the time? You have to suffer disagreement a bit, for the sake of a discussion. You do that with others, so what's your problem with me?

I don’t “talk down” to you anymore than I “talk down” to anyone I strongly disagree with. Good lord, man - we’re all smart asses here from time to time. What specifically have I said to you that was so outside of the boundaries of everyday heated discussion? I say give an example or admit you’re being super sensitive.

I agree that France does better than us in some areas.

@bobsal u1553115,
Why would anyone hate Sanders with a passion, pray tell? It's very bizarre and struck me as irrational. So I asked hisporsche whether it could possibly be related to Sanders being Jewish. He clarified that this wasn't the problem, and I take his word for it. However he still haven't been able to explain his very strong antipathy for a politician who's by many accounts a fairly decent person. So I still think there's something probably irrational there. Not antisemitism alright, but something else.

@Olivier5,
Lol...

I don't hate Sanders with a passion. I hope the man stays in the Senate, I hope he pushes his issues as hard as he can. I hope he does whatever he can do in 2020 to help get some of his policies enacted. I have zero comment on BS as a decent person and I have never made one.

You perceive my dislike of his staff/surrogates (both official ones like Brianna Joy Grie and David Sirota) and his unofficial ones online as hate for Sanders.

That is YOUR problem. Not mine.

@maporsche,
Respect is not something that can be decided. What I can decide to do is not insult you. That is to say: maintain a minimum of form, in line with A2K regulations.

Those regulations have a purpose: to allow for a variety of opinions to be expressed without too much runcus and bitterness.

For the same reason, if I want to have a conversation with a person, here or anywhere, I don't start off with an insult.

So if you want my attention for some clever point you're trying to make, you know what to do. Don't start off with an insult, cause I'm only human.

Just leave the insults for the end, if you can't help yourself. :-)

@Olivier5,
I love Bernie, I do not care for his temper when he is contradicted. I think he is a good voice in the Senate especially in banking oversight, but I think he would make a poor President. His followers in general do him no favors by being more radical than he is.

@Olivier5,
I don't think there's anything particularly sinister about "hating" any politician. As people in the public eye they can rub you the wrong way sometimes. While I always had a certain amount of admiration for Sanders, I really thought his run in '16 was quixotic given the lack of an organized socialist base in the USA. He really injured Clinton's candidacy (not that she wasn't already saddled with too much baggage and poor campaign skills) and I can see why people who really wanted two consecutive Democratic administrations might hold that against him. In 2020 it was his supporters that turned me off as they seemed to have embraced the "it's my turn" attitude that was so annoying when Clinton was running. Sanders may very well be a decent person — his support for Biden bears this out — but I don't think it's necessarily irrational for someone to resent his presence on the political stage.

@Olivier5,
What he did had made me sick to my stomach. That has not changed.

Where did I say that I hate him? Where did I do this passionately?

You seem to be very casual with the way you use words. Maybe if you want my respect, a little more precision is in order.

I agree, I think if he didn't actively hurt Clinton he certainly did passively by his late and halfhearted support.

I agree with you.

But I got to say, this time around Sanders really is supporting Biden openly and early and it is sincere. I think he is right where he needs to be, in the Senate for another leftist vote and for being the conscience for the democratic party.

@maporsche,
We usually judge people on their deeds. I guess you’re one of those who hate the sin but not the sinner.

In clearer terms, the distinction you are trying to make, about hating his deeds but not his person, sounds a bit casuistic.

“Sick in the stomach” is an expression of intense dislike, right? It goes beyond mere political disagreement. Would you care to try and explain what is it that he did that made you so sick? It could help you get better, and it would help me understand what you’re saying.

I think everyone should take a step back from that position and remember...

...Gallup Poll:

"The high mark for most appearances at number 1, the most admired woman in the world, belongs to Hillary Clinton, who served as First Lady of Arkansas from 1983 to 1992, First Lady of the United States during the presidency of Bill Clinton from 1993 to 2001, United States Senator representing New York from 2001 to 2009, and United States Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013. She ranked first 22 times out of 25 during the years 1993–2017, including 16 in a row from 2002–2017, before her dominance was broken in 2018 by Michelle Obama." (From Wikipedia)

Not sure what went wrong, but the hated toward Hillary will rank as one of the most stupid (probably THE most stupid) things the American public has ever done to itself.

I agree with that. But I would add that any other irrational hatred within the Dems, targeted for instance at Sanders or at Biden, is at least equally self-destructive.

Let’s agree to disagree. To me it’s nothing less than a denial of people’s right for democratic debate and vote.
