A Trump-Sanders smoking gun.
South Carolina Trump activists in a much-promoted Facebook video: "We're asking South Carolina Republicans to show their support for President Trump by crossing over and voting in the Democratic primary for Senator Bernie Sanders."

@Brand X,
All’s fair in love, war, and primaries.
Donald J Trump was elevated by the Clinton campaign because they sure that she could beat him.
Throw me in *that* briar patch.

BREAKING: @PeteButtigieg, another leading Democratic 2020 candidate will #SkipAIPAC, joining @amyklobuchar, @ewarren, and @BernieSanders.

Four down, two (@JoeBiden and @TomSteyer) to go — and one lost cause (@MikeBloomberg).

Because of grassroots pressure, the tide is turning. https://twitter.com/jacobkornbluh/status/1232725872391655431

Trump Sues NYT For Defamation, Alleging ‘Bias’ Over Russia Op-ed

What the ****!? you might ask. This isn't meant to go anywhere being an obvious First Amendment case. Imagine the number of such suits that could be launched against Fox or Limbaugh or Mark Levin or or or. Further, if it ever actually arrived in court, discovery would open up the Trump campaign/admin to lots of stuff they wouldn't want revealed. So, it won't go anywhere and isn't intended to.

What is actually going on is:
1) the standard bullying of media which Trump finds inconvenient in his authoritarian demands for pro-Trump coverage or silence. In this, he's like every other dictator or wanna-be dictator. Of course, part of this strategy is fomenting hatred within his base towards independent media, again, as dictator types always proceed.

2) but I think we can easily conclude that he picked this moment to launch a suit regarding an op-ed from a year ago is to distract attention and news coverage from the coronavirus news including his administrations gutting of the agencies devoted to protecting the US from possible pandemics not to mention coverage of his single-minded concern re the influence this could have on his election. And he knows that this story, an attack on media and the First Amendment will be picked up immediately by the press.

He's a sociopath.

@Brand X,
Why are Sanders supporters so eager to doubt any Russian involvement in the 2020 contest and so quick to deny that Russia would like to see a strong Sanders showing? Sanders was briefed and we don't hear him questioning Russian meddling — we see him strenuously denouncing Putin. It's not as if his campaign asked for Russian help or that, flush with campaign funds, they'd even need it. Russia's desire to destabilize western democracies has been proven. Raising suspicion about the intelligence findings seems more like something the Trump campaign would do.

The reason why -in my opinion - is that Russian influence on Bernie’s campaign muddles their pristine view of all things Bernie. Even though no one’s accusing anything Bernie did, even the hint of Russian taint is enough to set off their knee-jerk defensiveness about Bernie. Thus - strong denial that Russia ever belongs in any discussion about Bernie.

You mean rather than restore and increase funding to the CDC (who would all things being equal be the ones who spearheaded the defense against a pandemic), they would rather tap into funds critical for the well-being of the poor?

Nah, not surprised. Disgusted, but not surprised.

@snood,
Yes. And all this in the broader context of increased military funding, funding for the wall and tax cuts for the very wealthy. Poor people do not matter. For Republicans (including the religious right) they almost never matter at all.

Depends on which supporter(s). Tracey has been very vocal about Russiagate being overplayed.

As for other Sanders supporters I have no idea.

I'm unclear on the genesis and spread of this notion in the Sanders camp. Greenwald is a key player. My best guess is a combination of two things:

1) Russian trolling which has clearly been very successful and influential in convincing a lot of Bernie supporters that Russia is [Edit: NOT] involved

2) part of that story includes the Russian troll attempts to demonize Clinton for her positions on Russia/Putin which runs conveniently parallel to Sanders camp attacks on her as in - "Hillary and the DNC screwed up the election, not Russia". And we ought to note that Sanders "anti-establishment" brand was established in great part through demonizing the Dem party.

3) in all the above, bad faith right wing agents are at work as well. It isn't merely Putin who is working to set Americans against Americans. It also serves the purposes of the Koch/libertarian crowd (recall Michele Bachmann caught on mic congratulating a big Wisconsin funder for her contributions to breaking up unions - "divide and conquer" was the phrase she used).

Edit: one quick note on Sanders vs Dem "establishment"... He is trying to create a break-away movement. In this, he is not unlike the cases where break-away religious groups form up and promote themselves. It is always (I think it is fair to say always here) the case that they describe themselves as more pure than what they break away from. We are closer, they say, to our faith as it was in the beginning. What we break from, they say, has become corrupted.

Do you know there are less poor now? Maybe you should see their budget and see if they are meeting current needs.

@Lash,
Sanders fails to attract voters over 25 when he shouts that he is a Socialist.
Technically his age discourages voters as well; however, the November competitor falls into that group too, making it rather ridiculous to even have pollsters and journalists mention.

@Sturgis,
Real stats: Bernie leads everybody except those over 65.
Every sex, every race, Hispanics, whites, blacks, every age—except over 65.
Independents, democrats, liberals.

Just saying.

You mean this?

Quote:
Thanks to legislative efforts, ballot measures and adjustments for inflation, workers in 20 states will see an increase in their minimum wage in 2019.

These minimum wage increases, which range from a $0.05 inflation adjustment to a $2 per hour increase, will impact 5.2 million workers and, for those who work year-round, it will raise their annual pay between $90 and $1,300, according to a recent Economic Policy Institute report. On Jan. 1, 2019, 24 cities and counties will also raise their minimum wages.

Though the federal minimum wage has remained at $7.25 an hour since 2009, there has been a growing movement across the nation to raise this number at both the state and local levels.

In 29 states, the minimum wage now surpasses the federal level, and a handful of state have pledged to raise their minimum wage to $15 an hour over the next few years.
