Gillibrand will certainly say anything she is told to. I would think it would be a woman, but I could be wrong.

Good guess. The buzz--may not be true--is that Bernie is talking to Kamala. Reminding that it's gossip--from mid-level KHIVE people.
We hope not because she'd kill the movement in its crib the moment she gets the chance.

Marianne Williamson just endorsed Sanders. Could it be her?

Well thank you. I wasn't familiar with her, but I generally agree with the section you quoted.
Is this supposed to represent some confirmation of the "movement conservatism" obsession you have been paddling for so long?

Do you really think it, and its advocates, are in any way (other than the content of their respective messages) different from each other? This is simply political advocacy. Apparently you believe that this OK for those who share your beliefs, but necessarily a dark conspiracy for those who see things differently. That is a nonsensical position.

You have been claiming that the term/concept has no reality or meaning outside of my imagination. You've said explicitly that I'm pushing a "conspiracy theory". As I've pointed out to you many many times, the term is self applied by a certain sort of Republican and has been for years. That you weren't aware of this just tells us that you are very poorly informed regarding your own party and conservatism as it has evolved. Just last week, I pointed you to the Netlix documentary "Get Me Roger Stone" where Paul Manafort speaks of the 'new conservative movement" which began in the Goldwater era.

All of these people who use the term obviously believe it means something. They believe it is something which requires a term to differentiate it from forms of American conservatism that predates or is different from it otherwise there would be no need for the term at all. It is not merely advocacy. Read any of the historian Rick Perlstein's books. He's an excellent scholar, his work is deeply researched and he's a very good writer. American conservatism from Goldwater up is his subject area. Some other links for you:

The populist conservative movement known as the New Right enjoyed unprecedented growth in the late 1970s and early 1980s. History.com Here

That you weren't familiar with Ginni Thomas doesn't surprise me. She's someone you should know about along with a much larger community of connected activists, what they think, what they work towards.

I've been thinking a bit about Bloomberg's devastating debate performance. Specifically, his failure to adequately prepare for it. You'd think he'd know better. And you'd certainly think that his high-priced advisers and consultants would have known better as well.
I think what must have happened is that his bloated self-regard led him to imagine he could just step in and shine like a mini-god. After all, he's really really rich and connected and famous and surely that was all evidence of his intrinsic superiority. I suspect prudent advice was ignored, in quite the same manner as with Trump.

It's quite a common error. Many politicians have a bad first debate because they thought they didn't need to prepare. As I recall, Barack Obama had a bad first debate in 2012.

He probably heard someone compare it to influenza and then got his wires crossed and remembered it as a comparison to the common cold.

@oralloy,
In other words, the guy is dirt stupid.

Here in Italy, nobody expects much from the national system for disease control. We all know they are disorganized and under-funded, and trust that they will improvise to the best of their ability... A few thousand (mainly old) people will die while the country muddles through the epidemic, and that will be it.

But in the US, COVID-19 could have far reaching consequences. One reason is that their system used to be the world best (the CDC enjoys a worldwide reputation of excellence) but has apparently been hollowed out since Trump came in office. So potentially, while the Italians expect little protection from their government, the American public has come to expect a well coordinated national response to these things.

This means that any American death from the virus can be chalked up onto Trump's board, during an election year. That is what Trump is getting scared of.
