Sadly that does seem to be the way things are moving...

That's not the way the climate's moving...the political climate and the global climate.

Jeremy ******* Corbyn is kicking ass worldwide.

Forbes brags on Bezos for donating $98.5 million to homelessness, and Corbyn retweets, saying, “That’s .009% of your income. Just pay your taxes.

Please send Jeremy Corbyn to us! ❤️🔥

Hong Kong Democracy Backers Win Big as Voters Flock to Polls

A surge in voting, especially by young people, allowed democracy advocates to win many more seats on local councils.

Quote:
HONG KONG — Pro-democracy candidates buoyed by months of street protests in Hong Kong were headed to a stunning victory in local elections on Sunday, as record numbers voted in a vivid expression of the city’s aspirations and its anger with the Chinese government.

It was a pointed rebuke of Beijing and its allies in Hong Kong, and the turnout — seven in 10 eligible voters — suggested that the public continues to back the democracy movement, even as the protests have grown increasingly violent. The surge was driven especially by young voters, a major force behind the demonstrations of the past six months.

With three million voters casting ballots, pro-democracy parties captured at least 216 of 452 elected seats, up from 124, and perhaps many more, according to early official results.

To many democracy advocates, Sunday was a turning point for the movement.

(...)

Matthew Cheung, the chief secretary and second-highest official of the Hong Kong government, vowed on Sunday during the voting that the city’s leadership would pay close attention to the results of the vote no matter how it turned out.

“The election is an important political thermometer,” he said. “We will definitely take it seriously.”

"Of course, I would." -Sen. @berniesanders is asked by a voter in Franklin, NH if he would support abolishing nuclear weapons.

Seriously?

Why does Sanders want to weaken democracy's defenses against evil?

@hightor,
It wasn't until about two weeks ago that I realized elections were imminent. That's proving fortuitous to the protesters' goals, I think, whether or not the elections were in mind when the protesters began (which was the consequence of a singular proposal re extradition).

Those results, overwhelming as they were, surely limit China's options now.

Perhaps because he is aware that nuclear weapons are actually more dangerous than beneficial.

@blatham,
I think that’s a bit hopeful. The elections were largely meaningless. China can do whatever they please and no one will be able to stop them.

The world can definitely see the numbers behind the pro-democracy movement, for what that’s worth.

Pan-democrats won 388 seats against the 63 of the pro-establishment camp and took control 17 of the city's 18 district councils.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam said yesterday that the SAR government respects the result of the elections, which reflected the dissatisfaction of Hong Kong residents with deep-rooted social issues. And she said the government will "listen carefully" to the opinions of citizens.

Meaningless?

The “agreed” makes the rest of what you said irrelevant—but, whatever floats that nit-picking boat.

Just read on Politico that Bloomberg had endorsed Scott Brown against Warren. Much else that is unflattering too

He has no chance of winning the nomination. So what the **** is the guy up to?

@blatham,
Good grief, the guy has a ridiculously high opinion of himself. It was fun seeing him walk back his "stop and frisk" policies; lowering the rate of street crime was one of his big bragging points and now he can't even point to that as a "success".

It couldn’t be as simple as not being able to stop because of pride and ego driving him on after making a commitment, could it? Being a hotshot billionaire and stuff, he probably has some intricate next-level strategy for being in a nomination race he can’t win, doncha think?
