I do. Many teachers make well over 100,000 grand a year, that adds up.

Margaret Sullivan has a good piece up on Ocasio-Cortez
Ocasio-Cortez herself gets the problem [of the acute media focus, good and bad, on her] HERE

Quote:
“It feels like an extra job,” she told New Yorker editor David Remnick in a new interview. “I’ve got a full-time job in Congress and then I moonlight as America’s greatest villain or as the new hope.”

I've just ruled one candidate out. John Hickenlooper speaks:
Quote:
"Just like anybody, people are responsive to people that they think respect them, and they feel heard. I learned this in the restaurant business. When someone's angry, you don't fight back on them or argue with them. You repeat back their words. And if I got - when I come into office, I would go to Mitch McConnell, to his office, and I would sit down with him and say, now what is the issue again? And we would talk and I would continue to speak back to him. Sounds silly, right? But this works."

Where the **** has this guy been?

@blatham,
I just know for a fact that FAUX didn't start lying yesterday. That's because I paid some attention to them over the years, since their creation in the mid-90s. They've always lied, and that's the definition of propaganda.

Some of the people interviewed by Mayer seem to think (or pretend to think) that it was a fundamentally different FAUX News 10 or 20 years ago, opinionated yet intellectually honest. They are just wrong (or lying) about it. It wasn't. And to the degree that she buys their BS, Mayer should know better.

The only difference is that now, some people, including on the right, have finally woke up and understood the problem posed by a mainstream media watched by millions who lies day in and day out... How can a democracy function if the public is constantly lied to, these people ask? That's indeed a big problem, but it's far from a new one. Bush Junior was a clear precedent of what such a democracy can deliver... And everyone at FAUX was lying his or her ass off in support of Bush, just as they do now with Trump.

Salary for Public School Teacher in the United States

Quote:
How much does a Public School Teacher earn in the United States?

The average public school teacher salary in the United States is $56,656 as of February 28, 2019, but the range typically falls between $49,465 and $65,411.

Salary ranges can vary widely depending on many important factors, including education, certifications, additional skills, the number of years you have spent in your profession.

@snood,
At retirement? Two.

I didn’t say that it was super easy to save 10% of your salary and not touch it for 40 years...but it is VERY possible.

There are 15,000,000 millionaires in America. Most of them I’d say had parents who were not millionaires.

It’s uncommon enough that only 15,000,000 out of 200,000,000 households have done it l, but it’s not exactly impossible.

@coldjoint,
Dictionary definition of the word "average":

a number expressing the central or typical value in a set of data, in particular the mode, median, or (most commonly) the mean, which is calculated by dividing the sum of the values in the set by their number.

@Real Music,
I live in Chicago. Every public sector employees salaries are visible online. There are hundreds of not thousands of teachers/administrators/police/firefighters making close to or more than $100,000 per year (and a good percentage of that in retirement in the form of pensions).

And they deserve every penny (and more). Not trying to disparage teachers in any way.

Just pointing out that if almost any of us had started saving 10% of our pay when we got out of college, and didn’t spend it, we all could have been millionaires and none of us would have needed parents or even a 6 figure job to get there.

The site was only referring to teachers average salary. Not any other profession.
The site was referring to the national average. Not any one specific city.

IF they save their money.

That being said, if you have a six figure income for a good chunk of your career and don’t have any crazy family medical bills/nursing home or a special needs child who need expensive medical care, and you aren’t able to save 10% of your income and at least be a millionaire by retirement...well, I think you’ve done something wrong in your financial life.
