POC and women are sick of the really tired-ass establishment ploy to cast Bern supporters as white guys. A recycled David Brock lie from Hillary’s ‘campaign’ against Obama, when the ‘boys’ were black and abusive.

So they’re launching a pic ID of Bernie supporters. Pretty cool.
———————
Let’s get this started! Bernie’s haters can’t engage his ideas so they pretend all of his supporters are straight, white, men & invisibleize everyone else. This is what a #bernieBro looks like. #JustAnotherBernieBro #bernieBros

@Lash,
They take one of the true fighters for the rights of all and try to paint him in disgusting tones. When you protest: What are you talking about? Links?

Those who speak against socialism almost always pick examples that are not relevant to the situation on the ground, in the USA. None of the socialists I can name are ready to seize ownership of businesses or stop business from making a profit. Asking the rich to contribute a fair share in the form of taxes and placement of barriers to block business overreach is as far as it goes. Our society already has a form of socialism mixed with capitalism. The problem is, capitalism is attempting the cold blooded murder of socialism, which exists in the form of Medicare, Social Security, infrastructure and the like. I don't have time to write more just now. I shouldn't even have to.

This didn't happen for 2016. Good deal.

CNN to host Bernie Sanders at 2020 town hall

Washington (CNN)Sen. Bernie Sanders will head to Washington next Monday for a town hall moderated by CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

The proposed "Green New Deal" requires the government to completely take over our energy generation industries and transportation industries.

And since it would allow the generation of power only from renewable sources, we would even get socialist-style rolling blackouts and power outages to cope with the lack of generating capability.

The first thing Frank Luntz would tell you here is that "socialism" is not a smart self-branding move. It is one of the most loaded political terms (and that load is mostly negative, particularly in the west). Further, it is a term that few understand or define in the same way.

My suggestion to Sanders' supporters is to drop it entirely. Instead, speak about the policies that you'd like to see in place and try to convince others of how such policies can make their lives much better. Get familiar with other nations' systems where such policies are in place and talk about life there (but use data that people can verify). This steers you clear of about 20 serious landmines.

Well, I would say that Medicare for All would be intent on stopping the health insurance industry from not only making a profit, but of actually existing.

Not that I disagree per se but that is the goal of Sanders’ bill that has several presidential candidates as co-sponsors.

And of course, the Green New Deal.

A wide-ranging disinformation campaign aimed at Democratic 2020 candidates is already under way on social media, with signs that foreign state actors are driving at least some of the activity.

The main targets appear to be Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), four of the most prominent announced or prospective candidates for president.

A POLITICO review of recent data extracted from Twitter and from other platforms, as well as interviews with data scientists and digital campaign strategists, suggests that the goal of the coordinated barrage appears to be undermining the nascent candidacies through the dissemination of memes, hashtags, misinformation, and distortions of their positions. But the divisive nature of many of the posts also hint at a broader effort to sow discord and chaos within the Democratic presidential primary.
Politico

Of course this is happening. It is what Republicans have done before and they will do it again. Of course Russia will be pushing out as much crap onto social media as they can manage to help Trump remain in power. And given the GOP leadership's unwillingness to admit and curtail Russian activity will continue, of course we can't count on them to do much of anything beyond an empty word here and there.

Whenever and wherever you see portions of the left join in such attacks on other Dem candidates, recognize - for the love of god - that such voices are either agents working to diminish the left or are stupid folks with bad data sources who are being co-opted by the bad guys. That's the goal. That's how this works.

I guess the operative question would be do you (generic you) believe that these initiatives are motivated mostly by a desire to help the masses or to harm the 1%?

I agree that calling socialism something less threatening sounding would be a good tactic, if it would work, but it's a Pandora's box we seem to be stuck with.

For the second time in six months, Microsoft has identified a Russian government-affiliated operation targeting prominent think tanks that have been critical of Russia, the company said in a blog post Tuesday evening.

The “spear-phishing” attacks — in which hackers send out phony emails intended to trick people into visiting websites that look authentic but in fact enable them to infiltrate their victims’ corporate computer systems — were tied to the APT28 hacking group, a unit of Russian military intelligence that interfered in the 2016 U.S. election. The group targeted more than 100 European employees of the German Marshall Fund, the Aspen Institute Germany, and the German Council on Foreign Relations, influential groups that focus on transatlantic policy issues.

God yes.

Socialists running in Democratic primaries will not only have to openly declare their politics, but make it clear that their primary loyalty is to their socialist organization. Practically, this would mean, first, refusing to support corporate Democrats in general elections — to call for their supporters to abstain from voting if socialists are defeated in the primaries. Second, if socialists won the primary and the general election, they would have to be prepared to caucus independently from the “regular” Democrats in various legislative bodies, so as not be prisoners of the pro-capitalist politicians.

Presumably we would still need private insurers to provide Medigap policies and Part D prescription coverage.

@blatham,
You and your pals always seem to forget the changes made by Harry Reid. How convenient.

There is no conservative jurist who Dems would support. If you think there is name one (and please don't try and tell me Obama's last pick was one)

Obama nominated two absolutely reliably liberal individuals to the SC and both were approved. Why should a conservative president back off his or her beliefs when you would never expect a liberal one to do so?

It's BS - pure and simple.
