@georgeob1,
I partly agree.

I also disagree that many of her supporters are ready to embrace nuance. Progressives seem to be the most black & white voters out there. Hence her vote against reopening the government because ICE is part of the government.

Does that “embrace nuance” AOC?

@georgeob1,
Isn't that true for all of us? Trump, for example, would readily admit this. I'm sure of it.

There's an interesting phenomenon in all this. On the one hand, it is not uncommon for many people to believe that government office is a simple matter and that most anyone could just step in and quickly set things right. Sarah Palin and her supporters for example. Yet on the other hand, if the political post in question is possibly going to be taken over by someone not in one's own party, the challenges of the job become insurmountable.

@georgeob1,
What more knowledge are you expecting from our people in government? You might wish to start from the top.

Has she actually voted or said that? Do her followers agree with it? That seems a little extreme. What are we going to do, go down a laundry list of services of government which any side disagree and say, "unless this or that...." Some conservatives might actually come back and say "because the EPA is part of the government, I don't support re-opening the government."

All the genius Republicans and Democrats ahead of her have put us in the sewer, but they preach this way to the ones ready to uplift our political system.

@revelette1,
She actually did.

She said “Most of our votes are pretty straightforward, but today was a tough/nuanced call,” she wrote in an Instagram story. “We didn’t vote with the party because one of the spending bills included ICE funding, and our community felt strongly about not funding that.”

Nuanced?

@maporsche,
It was an absolutely meaningless vote by her though (like a lot of these “protest” votes) so there’s that...

@maporsche,
Although, this meaningless vote will be used to show how “tough” and “kick-ass” she is.

If she were the deciding vote on reopening the government, no way she makes this “no” vote.

Too funny.

@edgarblythe,
Forgive me edgar (or don't) I have a lot of respect for you but don't you think she is starting to go on the other side of the same coin as Trump? Our system of government was never meant to be one way, but a system of checks and balances and the coming together from different view points. At least that is how I used to think it if I thought of it all. I know republicans have had their way for awhile and a lot centrist democrats have given away the store with unions and other such issues, but there is a need to pick the battles you want to fight in the proper venue and time you want to fight it. A budget battle in which Trump has forced his wall funding into the middle of which has caused the longest shutdown in history which has caused hardship and struggles for a large number of federal employees is not the time to deal with ICE (as in existence) in my opinion. I haven't seen the bill where funding for ICE was included, it probably has some things in there which are good to offset the bad. In any case you got use a carrot to prod along a mule to get it to go.

“And it led to mass murder, it led to dictatorship, it led to genocide. These promises are old promises and they invariably lead to bad things,” the former host of “Win Ben Stein’s Money” said.

ICE has been turned into a criminal enterprise that's destroying thousands of lives. But the Democrats who voted to fund it get kudos?

Too funny.

@maporsche,
Drawing attention to a problem such as ICE is not a wasted effort with people who really do want things to improve.
