Meanwhile in Ireland, my County (Kerry - my avatar is their jersey) face off against Galway in the Gaelic Football All Ireland quarter final today. The game throws in at 4pm in a direct clash with the France-Croatia match. Sadly FIFA did not see fit to change the time of the World Cup Final to prevent this clash from happening.

@lmur,
At least le tour and Wimbledon didn't clash as I feared.
To show my biased support, I'm watching the match on French TV1

@Olivier5,
Congrats to France. Croatia were unlucky today - first two French goals were the results of -shall we say - questionable refereeing. However the best team in the tournament as a whole won.

@lmur,
The referee made mistakes both ways, eg in first half there was no hand ball by Giroud, and the first Croatian goal was on a free kick that shouldn't have been.

And the hand ball by Croatia in the surface, that was bound to be a penalty.

@Olivier5,
This said, the Croats played splendidly; they really challenged the French team big time.

@Olivier5,
People in Arras had today a lot celebrate:

at first the Tour de France and now (webcam screenshot from two minutes ago) la victoire des Bleus

@Olivier5,
Sorry if I appeared begrudging - wasn't my intention. Put it down to small-country syndrome!

@Walter Hinteler,
I'm travelling abroad by myself for the job... I so wish I was in Europe among family and friends... Anyway. A very enjoyable game it was.

@Olivier5,
A couple of Paris métro stations (six, I think) got "special names" now by RATP

@Walter Hinteler,
Quote:
A London Underground station has been temporarily named after England's football manager.

Southgate Tube station was rebranded Gareth Southgate station from Monday morning for 48 hours, after the squad finished fourth in the World Cup.

It was England's best result since 1990 when they also lost in the semi-final.

"We're delighted to be able to show our appreciation to Gareth and the team by renaming the station in his honour," Transport for London said.

The Piccadilly Line station, in Enfield, north London, will display the manager's name on its signs until the end of Tuesday.

Wonder what he would have got if England had won the damn thing? Apart from a knighthood - airport perhaps?

@lmur,
He needs to savour it while it lasts. Already pundits on the BBC were criticising his tactics re substitutions. They agreed he would stay in place until the Euros but thought he should be changed before the next WC.

I think we should stick with him, constantly changing managers does no good at all. And I should know being a Saints supporter.
