There's always room for one more, husker.

Just to help you figure out the right size <not that there's an official size, but my pockets are only so big> - the stone I'm bringing for me and Set is about the size of my baby fingernail - the one Piffka sent is a tiny bit bigger - and the one I picked up in Michigan is about as big as my thumbnail <or the same size as Set's baby fingernail>.

Small stones are also easier to mail.

johnboy packaged up three small stones and put them in a box addressed to ehbeth at her office. One from johnboy; two from other folks on A2K (whomever) who may have wanted to participate but couldn't. Three quite pretty stones.
Neil, one of my employees, took the little box over to to the Post Office. I told him about Cav and why we were sending stones. He liked that story about A2K and the Jewish tradition. But the officious lady at the Post Office did not, demanding that they be in a much bigger box with custom forms with declared value and insured values, and seeming to question why anyone would want to send stones to Canada, anyway.
He got frustrated and she got mad. Another clerk came over during his lunch break and said that we should bring the box to him tomorrow and it will go off to Canada.
I think back on how Cav had a keen eye for the absurd. The complications involved in mailing small stones from the US to Canada would have amused him.

rjb - I think you just provided me with one of my readings for the unveiling.

I think cav would appreciate the saga of the stones.

The first little stone, very innovatively packaged, arrived today.
Thanks, piffka.

Cool. That was fast. Thank you for being the official stone deliverer, Beth. That stone was in memory of a creamsicle conversation and how King Charles Cavalier Spaniels have a creamsicle look about them. (I guess they do come in different colors but the white and orange is the one I know.)

I miss Paul. I was thinking of a cooking question last week and my first thought was to run to the computer and my second thought was.... he's not going to answer. It made me feel so sad. He was so young and such a nice funny guy. I hope his wife and brother and parents and all his family are doing okay.

Could you pick up another yourself for me?

I think it would take too long...

That's a really neat idea, ehBeth. I too would like to participate, if it isn't too much trouble.

Does it absolutely have to be a rock, Bethie? I have a pretty little amber glass pebble I'd like to send. I figure I'm not Jewish anyway, so what the hey, maybe I could bend the rules a little further???

I think that would be wonderful, Eva.
The sites I've been to, to try and learn about the tradition, haven't shown any specific rules.
As long as you don't think the pocket will come outta my jacket/coat - go for it.

Actually, Bo and I will be travelling up together - so make it huge - and I'll make Bo do the heavy lifting

Good idea, Bethie! Mine won't rip any seams, though. It's just a small thing...about 1" across and a quarter of an inch high...smooth, iridescent greeny-gold glass. I'll put it in the mail to you tomorrow.
