Yeah, Boomer's thread is what triggered this memory.
T once got a concussion in a car accident. Pretty severe (well, diagnosed as "moderate"), caused difficulty controlling her emotions, attention problems, some language was difficult to retrieve. (She knew what she wanted to say, could picture the thing in her head, but just
couldn't retrieve the word. It would just stick for minutes at a time until she'd be able to say "hammer," for example.)
It took her a couple of years to get mostly over the symptoms, with the help of cognitive therapy.
But for about 18 months, she would repeat words... endlessly. She claimed it was very soothing; the therapists said it was her brain trying to route around the bruised areas. But have you ever had someone repeat "Mickey Mouse" or "Wysiwyg" (pronounced whizzee-wig) for
hours? It's maddening; made bearable only by the fact that she must have it worse....
