My intent is not on political matters. I just want to made clear that questions as above are merely connected to bashing. Those who have interesting thoughts to explain, should stay on it.

(As for the matter, my memories of Marylin Monroe are a lot wider than that.)

Please illuminate me on how that is considered bashing??? And "coquettish" is not sexist??? Is there still gravity on this planet?

Or ... they simply restate their opinions as fact.

I believe there still are a couple of pertinent questions on the table for you, McT.

NOW I'm more than sure that your knowledge of German (and French, but that's easy) is far better than mine.

And some seem to have lost contact to English  :
Quote:
The notion of intrinsic "sexism" in the word and concept defies common sense and experience: it is absurd.

HofT certainly can answer the question about gravitity by her own experience.

Don't think so, not ones I haven't answered before, at any rate. Maybe a couple of impertinent ones (if I can say that without being accused of indulging in semantics). I don't have Bill's or Ican's stamina or application, and have no wish to indulge in overly personal exchanges, so may pass.

She is not known for this, I hear. Maybe she just doesn't find American men sexy.

This one got lost for a while, McTag, but it's back. Certainly it couldn't involve any sort of bashing because you wrote it and you're above such things ... and it certainly couldn't be as flat out weird as it sounds ... so ... what exactly was the purpose of this post?

Whooda - I can't imagine what your problem with McT is in regard to Ms. Rice. He's certainly been much more complimentary toward Ms. Rice than many observers here at A2K and in the American media. McT is also one of the most pro-American members of this forum. Interesting that you seem so eager to poke sticks at him.

It is clear that you have some difficulty accepting that the U.S. government's position in regard to Europe may be changing. Perhaps you need to take that up with your elected representative.

Did Shakespeare have to explain his work? Did Milton?

Oh well, if you insist. It is a comment, couched in light terms, of Ms Rice showing her womanly side, and having a female/male moment with Gerhard S. I'm not joining in the "coquetry" argument, I have no opinion on that, maybe she was, maybe she wasn't. I'm just reporting on what I observed, at another time during her visit.

Has there been any proof yet, what or if a German newspaper
said concerning Condoleeza being coquette?

Let's asume a German newspaper indeed said Ms. Rice
is "kokett" (that's the german word for it) than one has
to take in consideration, what the word "kokett" means in
german, right?

Being "kokett" is not a sexist remark in Germany, not
at all. Maybe if some Amerikans wouldn't be so ignorant
as to understand a foreign language and the interpretation
of such foreign words, than the light would shine quite
brightly.

I've thought, it could be 'flirten' as well as kokett.

Searched by now (the archives) of of all major and some regional papers without catching that headline (one source said "European papers called her...", but all the others referred only to one (1) German newspaper).

Walter, I'm certain, whoever made the statement
about this reference (Rice being coquette) would be
able to prove his/her statement with a legitimate source,
don't you think? Wink

Well, it appeared for the first time in an interview with a Spainish newspaper. (Here: "European")
And - when looking at the times - others published this later, however changed it to "one German".)

I honestly think that all came from a faulty translation. (I sometimes wonder, how much American correspondants, situated here in Germany, know about the country they report from. Not to speak of their knowledge of the German language  )

Actually the offer was to push one's car from a snowdrift. I hope your other comments here are as carefully researched and documented.

I'm not fretting at all - I'm just annoyed when soemone says, she/he knows my language better than I do (well, before I get the next proper licking: it was in a German newspaper and we don't have any publishing headlines in English! And additionally, I looked it up in the <<Trésor de la Langue Française informatisé>> as well).

Oh, I'm sorry, I'm in southern California and we don't know snowdrifts.
My other comments are carefully researched dear, as I speak German
and know of the interpretation certain words have.

As for the documentation, yes indeed, I do wait for a legitimate source
of the German newspaper that wrote about Rice being "coquette".
Wouldn't that be nice, if we all could read that here? I think so!
