@msolga,
I'm going out to dinner tomorrow to a French/Guadalupe restaurant in Brooklyn, named Kaz An Nou with several of my friends at work.

I will be bringing a bottle of red wine from France on the recommendation of the wine seller:
Chateau La Couronne, Eleve en futs de chene 2005.

Just found a review online from the respectable Wine Spectator magazine:
Quote:
Rated 90 - Crushed blackberry notes, with hints of dark chocolate and mineral, follow through to a full body, with chewy tannins and a long finish of fruit and vanilla. There's very bright acidity in this. Still needs to come together in the bottle. Best after 2012. 5,000 cases made. - Wine Spectator

@tsarstepan,
Sounds good to me.

I well remember picking the wrong Brunello...
the only time I've ever had Brunello.
We were in Montalcino, see... and there was this bar, tipico in that it served coffee and dolce and shots in the morning, and panini for a while, and so on.
they had a special, which we tried in late afternoon - we could have a bit of three Brunellos for what I don't remember, it might have been five dollars back then, for both of us - reasonable anyway. Much mishugas re having the glasses immaculate, but I don't remember the rigamarole.

We both liked the rosso (the youngest of the three). We were failed winos, er, oenophiles, but it was fun.

I learned about shots in the morning in Siena. We were up early, and got to the caffe across from the albergo at maybe 5:30 or 5:45. There was us, with our espressos, and the work guys, doing shots before the day ahead. These were the plasterers, hod carriers, etc.

Here, it's okay. In real life, don't /can't drink alcohol.

That's right, Reyn! Here, we can do exactly as we please.

Hmm. All this drinking...we need some food to balance it. Sophie took a chef's tour of French patisseries in Paris last month, and she's dying to show off what she learned.

Which one would you like to try? (I will be more than happy to eat whatever is left!)

@Eva,
The strawberries on the cake look nice!

Reminds me, berries are so expensive this year.

@Reyn,
They're worth it, though. We had some local strawberries a couple of weeks ago in Washington state that were so sweet they tasted like they'd already been sugared! And the blueberries were almost an inch in diameter! I'd never seen them so large!

Are you visiting there? Didn't think you lived there.

@Reyn,
Blueberries are great antioxidants, y'all. "I found my thrill on blueberry hill" Smile

I had blueberry pancakes for breakfast this morning.

How about a few crepes and a tribute to a work of art

My sister and brother-in-law live near Anacortes. We were there the 11th through 19th. I posted pictures on this thread just a couple of pages back.

Ah, I see. You probably would have experienced some of the warmer, dryer weather we've been having lately in this general area.

I'm just across the border in British Columbia, not too far from Vancouver.

@Reyn,
It was dry when we were there, with highs around 70-80 F. (Much nicer than the high 90s we were having at home.) We were thinking about driving up to Vancouver since we've never seen that city, but realized we hadn't brought our passports. Sad

@Eva,
You have to have a passport to go into Canada? Am I ever behind the times. I was there in '75 I think it was and didn't need one.
