You see Eva, better have only one serving of mousse the
next time.

I think you need a digestive - some Calvados perhaps,
or some italian Grappa.

That's so horrible and tragic. Why weren't there any
sprinklers in the hotel? These poor people.

One should hope, that by now, it would be mandatory
in all hotels around the world.

As far as I understand, there has been just one stairs, which burnt. 76 people in the hotel, mostly African families. The fire stated in the breakfast room, 1st storey.

Yes, I just read it as well - only one stairway and no
fire exit in the whole building. This is inexcusable for a
hotel. I couldn't find out if the African families were
tourists, citizens or refugees.....

It seems, mostly African 'tourist families' were the guests.

How tragic and horrific to die in such a manner.

Francis, isn't it mandatory for Hotels to have a sprinkler system?

CJ - as long as I know sprinklers are not mandatory in public receiving buildings built before 1974 but they must have a smoke detection system.

After 1974, sprinklers are mandatory

Hm, I guess the smoke detectors weren't working either.
This would be one of my biggest fears, being trapped
in an unfamiliar place (hotel) and a catastrophy is happening.

Happend to a friend during an earthquake in Acapulco.
Until they finally reached the lobby, an eternity had passed.

<makes a mental check to never stay in an old hotel, no matter how charming>
