I miss heat, but the sun hitting the water and greenery here is still spectacular.
oooohhhh, I was going to ask how hot it gets. I have a hard time when it gets over 80 for too many days in a row.
Remember, no humidity here.
no humidity eh? That's why all those plants grow like crazy eh?
OK, new news. I'll be in portland, seattle and whistler (canada) July 1-9. Leaving in one week!
I will fly into seattle tuesday and stay there for the night and next 1/2 day before heading North to canada. I'll be staying with friends. Well come back through seattle and head down to portland after a few days (maybe saturday? I'll check....).
Any chance to meet up with anyone during that window?
What, over 4th of July weekend? Nay, won't be in town.
Perhaps a beer on Tuesday, but that's aboot it, eh....
Sorry - L'k we're going to miss each other
littlek, When you're in Portland, do the Greyline tour to Columbia Gorge and Multnomah Falls. c.i.
A Beer on Tuesday, July 1? I could manage that, especially if the get-together was near the ferries. I want to avoid commuter traffic on I-5.
The weekend is busy, though the big party is Friday night, which means the rest of the weekend we'll be recovering. On your drive down to Portland, if the timing is right, I might be able to give you a quick tour of the Tides Tavern.

Must be a hell of a bar if it requires a tour.
ha-ha -- QUICK tour... QUICK!
Anyway, there's the deck... the poolroom... the bar... and my favorite parking place.
Kid's awake, I'll have do do my thinking at another time - later!
Cic, no tours for me, I have maybe $200 to spend for 8 days. And that's pushing the budget.
littlek, Since you're driving from Seattle down to Portland, maybe you can side-track eastward when you hit the Columbia River. It's beautiful out that way, and it's not that far from Portland. c.i.
Hmmm, July 1 is Canada Day, though I suspect things will be fairly quiet on this side of the border. If there's to a drink somewhere in Seattle that day, I'm definitely game. In fact, it being a Tuesday, it will be a day off for me. So keep me in the loop!
Say, Piffka, the Tides Tavern looks like the kind of place where I could enjoy quaffing a pint or two! Perhaps I could justify a trip to Gig Harbor one of these days this summer. It's not that far...
Hi! I just found this thread today... read pages 1-8, wishing I could have found it sooner, then skipped to 14, where I found that maybe I can join in! Please keep me in mind; I'd love to meet other a2k people!
and BTW, littleK, when you go to Vancouver, you should go to the University of British Columbia and see the Anthropology Museum there. The university acts as a conference center during the summer, and rents dorm rooms (cheap!) to other travelers as well. It's the only way my daughter and I have been able to take "international vacations" almost every year!
The museum is on the university grounds, just up the cliff from Wreck Beach (clothing optional last I heard) and covers the Pacific Rim as well as the Northwest Coast... It's a wonderful place to learn a lot about the native culture and the immigrants/traders/entrepreneurs who have shaped the current culture of the Northwest. My girl and I fell in love with it when she was five, and by the time she was eight, she was saying she wanted to be an anthropologist... The university has a lovely rose garden nearby, too.
Wy, And if I remember correctly, the residences in that part of Vancouver also has beautiful landscapes and grounds. c.i.
Wy, I don't think we've planned a trip into Vancouver.....
Told you I skipped some pages. At the beginning, it was Portland/Seattle/Vancouver... But wherever you go up here, you'll have a good time, and as of today, the weather is gorgeous. I should be out there instead of in here!
I'm in a state of frazzled irritation - I found this thread, I read it through from page one, thrilled, I posted a nice long newsy account of my time in Seattle visiting last year and this one, and my hope to visit and meet more Washington a2kers, and my cursor froze. So now I won't tell about the almonds in Pike's Place, or the nice time at the Tide's Inn, or the tv interview or the galleries or the ferry ride....oh, whatever you do, lil'k, take a ferry ride....
