The right to self-defense.

My point is that to object to invading a country because it is "sovereign" without considering the fact that the people have no say at all in the government, did not choose it, and are brutally and even murderously repressed is merely stupid.

And my point is that we do business with the enemy on a daily basis. The only difference is that there's a ton of oil in Iraq.

Any country with such wealth will lose their sovereignty against the most powerful and heavily armed nation in the world. It's no wonder that the world does not trust the idiot in the Oval Office.

Not at all. Your point was to object to the invasion on the basis of Iraq's sovereignty, which was very foolish.

Do you really think "sovereign" is an apt adjective for a country ruled by a gang of thugs who would torture and perhaps murder any citizen who dared to an express an opinion other than agreement?

You ask a question about the use of a word, but the word's meaning has no relevance. How stupid is that?! Laughing

Every time you say something this idiotic you do a terrible disservice to the memory and the descendants of those who suffered this horrible fate. Get a grip.

I believe it and stand by it and of course would expect you to fire back that it's idiotic. I am not trying to insult you nor am I speaking of you in particular. I am speaking of bush supporters. Cult of Personality. I have seen no evidence to make me believe otherwise. So my friend, I have a grip on my beliefs, but thanks for the advice.
I do not believe even for a single fleeting moment you think any significant portion of Bush supporters would not object if he started putting Democrats in ovens, Bear. This statement (not to be confused with my friend BPB) is idiotic... and you do not believe it. Got that? Now; go ahead and resume your Bush-bashing but stop marginalizing the victims of one the greatest tragedies in the history of humanity, okay?

I believe it...and you can believe that...because that's how things come to that...a little at a time....you get away with a little something and feel empowered...you get away with a little more...and feel more empowered...and on and on and on until one day the unspeakable is happening.....do you think all the decent regular citizens of Germany would have allowed Hitler to one day get up and start incinerating jews, and gypsies, and poles and such....no ..he did it one little move at a time...and he hid his actions in the most secret place...right in front of their f*#king eyes.....so it has always been....it only takes a few ardent supporters to help the shepherd herd the sheep.....

I think most people knew what Bear meant. It is true that Bush supporters will forgive him anything and will defend any and all actions to the death. Maybe they will stop short if bush decides to round up liberals and put them in ovens but might not stop short if he just arrests them on flimsy charges of anti bushiness. After all he can say that they are suspected of terrorism and then they will be given enemy combatant status and denied any due process of law.

We don't live in this paranoid delusion of yours, Bear. Even if it were an accurate prediction of things to come, we're not there now. We're nowhere near there. There would be a lot of people changing teams before that day arrived. Your example is disgusting, disrespectful of your peers as well as the descendants of the tragedy you invoke and you should be ashamed yourself for not retracting it. As your pal, I'm ashamed for you. Rolling Eyes

Not at all stupid. I will not haggle over word definitions with people who habitually haggle endlessly over the minutia of a discussion while ignoring the meaning. For the last time, objecting to invasion on the basis of sovereignty ignores the blatantly apparent fact that Iraq had a completely illegitimate government in which a band of thugs ruled by extreme force and stiffled dissent with violence.

Why didn't you just get on your soapbox in the first place instead of asking such a stupid question then?

I did. You were merely too dense to understand it. It was clearly my meaning that an objection to the invasion on the basis of Iraq's national sovereignty is absurd because the government was simply holding the people captive by force. You people respond by pouncing on whether I have characterized the definition of "sovereignty" correctly and utterly ignore my point, which, I might add, you have even now not addressed. Since most of your ideas are wrong, you are reduced to haggling over the minutia of a post.

Laughing Even now you don't make any sense. Sovereignty has nothing to do with what you're saying. Look at your original question again, and this time, actually try to think about what you said. Words have meanings for a reason. It makes it easier to discuss things rationally when you use them correctly. His argument was that Iraq was a sovereign nation. You have not disputed this. You have just ranted about thugs and killers, which was not in any way related to what dookie said.

If you can't see this, then by all means, go on making an ass of yourself.
