aidan wrote:Yeah well, back to New Jersey. You can't even compare growing up anywhere else to growing up in Jersey. I grew up in East Brunswick (not too far from Piscataway and my mother and sister worked in Middlesex Hospital as a matter of fact) and let me tell you there was always something to do. We spent many a school day heading down route 9 to Seaside - riding the waves and the roller coaster suspended over the ocean. When my mother would ask how I got sunburned at school, I'd tell her we had a track and field day.. mothers back then would believe anything. Not to mention all the broadway shows and concerts made available by hopping a bus and riding 45 minutes into Port Authority. But what's better than the location is the people - they don't even try to pretend to be anything but what they are - and I like that - having been raised so totally without it - I have no stomach for pretense or putting on airs. Whatever its shortcoming are, all I know is that I've lived in five other states and two other countries and I don't believe I could have chosen a better place to grow up. I thank God I'm a Jersey girl!
Way ta go, girl. I like it.
I still spend lots of time down the shore...mostly on the beach in front of the Surf Club in Ortley.
You livin' in the UK now? Where? I lived there for 2 years...way back.
Frank - I'm living in Somerset, and hour and a half to two hours due west of London - just south of Bristol. It's incredibly beautiful, and I'm loving it, but I got to tell you, I'm gonna do some serious damage when I get back to Jersey and hit the diners and delis. I dream about latkes with sour cream and baked ziti with some good italian sausage...and I'm not Jewish or Italian. That's what I love about growing up there - I was just exposed to so much variety at such a young age. No place else can match it for that.
My parents and one of my sisters still live in E.B., so I go back quite a lot. Are you still in Piscataway? We used to hang out at Johnson's Park down by the Raritan River.
i wanna go to new jersey some day
If you live a bad life, and do not say your prayers at night, when you die you will find yourself in New Jersey.

Next time you are back...PM me. We'll get together for a drink.
Woody Allen once said:
"I believe that there is an order to the universe, except for certain parts of New Jersey."
The views expressed are not necessarily those of the poster.

One of the wonderful things about New Jersey is that we have a one-size-fits-all expression for that, Brandon.
I gotcher "except certain parts of New Jersey" right heah!"
All said with appropriate guestures, of course.
That is kind of universally applicable.
Coming from New York, I sometimes had occasion to go to New Jersey while growing up, and have no particular fault to find with it. Atlantic City was cool both before and after it got casinos.
Hope you get up here again.
I'd enjoy meeting you. We could get together with the New York crowd...and have a ball.

Certainly. I'm actually from Scarsdale, NY. But no politics at all.
Never anything contentious at any of our get-togethers.
We all just have a fine time cutting up the members who are not present.

And why not? They deserve it!
nooooo..... we all just have fun when we see each other.
Really enjoyed meeting ya, Chris. Sorry I had to get up at 4am this morning...or we coulda kept that party going 'til the birds started to sing. Maybe next time....which I hope will be soon.
(For anyone wondering...LittleK is a doll!)
And Frank is one of the most entertaining people I've ever met. Funny, I got to bed at 4 am.....
Feelin' homesick - so I thought I'd come visit NJ (kind of). And it hit me - I haven't heard one mention of Jersey's own native son - Bruce - The Boss. I've been listening to him all day - this one pretty much typifies growing up in Jersey , (at least when I was there). Man, it was fun!
Spirits in the Night
Crazy Janey and her mission man were back in the alley tradin' hands
Long come Wild Billy with his friend G-man all duded up for Saturday night
Well Billy slammed on his coaster brakes and said anybody wanna go up to Greasy Lake?
It's about a mile down on the dark side of route 88 I gotta bottle of rose so let's try it.
We'll pick up Hazy Davy and Killer Joe and I'll take you all out to where the gypsy angels go
They're built like light, and they dance like spirits in the night
Oh you don't know what they can do to you
Spirits in the night - stand right up now and let them shoot through you.
Well now, Wild Billy was a crazy cat and he shook some of his dust out of his coon-skin cap
He said, "Trust some of this, it'll show you where it's at - or at least it'll help you really feel it."
By the time we made it up to Greasy Lake, I had my head out the window and Janey's fingers were in the cake.
I think I really dug her cause I was too loose to fake, I said "I'm hurt", she said, "honey let me heal it."
And we danced all night to a soul fairy band, and she kissed me just right like only a lonely angel can.
She felt so nice - just as soft as a spirit in the night....
Now the night was bright and the stars threw light on Billy and Davy dancin' in the moonlight
They were down near the water in a stone mud fight - Killer Joe gone passed out on the lawn
Janey said it was time to go so we closed our eyes and said goodby
To gypsy angel row - felt so right
Together we moved like spirits in the night....
Any Springsteen fans? Just wondering - I mean this is supposed to be Jersey, right?
David and I will be in the Garden state in June for a seminar. We will be at some collage and then a quick trip to NY. I will get back to you with the exact dates.
Of course while David does his thing I will want to play in both Philly and NYC. When I have the dates I will let you all know.
Also a trip to Conn., is on the agenda to check out some family property close to New London and Groton.

Be sure to let us know.
We now have a very active (and large) New York City contingent....and we all love to party.
I was told that Jersey has a nice (not sure if it's one or more) Light House. I love Light Houses, and would really like to know the location.
