and sometimes it's a cultural thing.
Neighbours on one side - they think we're away all the time - and we think they're away all the time. Neighbours on the other side - they holler when they're happy - they holler when they're mad - they holler holler holler. If you're quiet/speak quietly they think there's something wrong with you. They definitely prefer Set's volume to mine.
I dated a guy of the same background as the hollerers decades ago ... I thought I might marry him ... but I cried through every meal with his family ... they were shouters ... the hamburgers are quiet ... I wasn't used to the Mediterranean-style hollering and shouting. Even when Nonna was telling F that I was a lovely girl, she was hollering ... and I had tears rolling down my face.
Without appropriate volume some people just don't take what you're saying seriously.
