It's funny, in the not-so-distant past, the word "liberal" was a slander from the left, because liberals were thought to be too wimpy. The term "ultra-liberal" wouldn't have meant anything. Now it apparently means anyone who disagrees with Bush's policies too vehemently.

No, there's a lot of free speech and discussion going on.
I use the term "ultra-liberal" because I've come to realize that a lot of the questionable claims, actions, and thinking I have attributed to liberals in the past is actually endemic only in a very small, very vocal, and very poorly informed group. I'm going to call them ultra-liberal, to distinguish them from their more rational, reasonable brethren.
And if you have a problem with that term, consider how often you see the phrases "right wing", "right wing extremist" and other analogs thrown around in these discussions.
