but D' - you can't see Cheney! When you are able to see him, then the all clear whistle has been blown.

Valid point, Bill; as long as Chaney is not at an "Undisclosed Secure Location", there is yet a chance for peace. Unfortunately, the holder of that chance is Saddam Hussein. Bush the Younger couldn't stop this now if he tried, any more than a pebble could stop a tide. No one but Saddam can. That is not confidence inspiring.

Funny, Chaney "shows up" for fund raisers - priorities!
Islamist Website: An Imminent Terrorist Attack (Possibly by Al-Qa'ida) Within "About Ten Days" (Apparently in the U.S.)
On February 24th, an Islamist website, www.alfjr.com(1) - published a religious exhortation containing text announcing an imminent terror attack, apparently to take place in the U.S. The author signed the announcement by the moniker "The Prince of Philosophy." The message also appeared on the Islamist website www.arabforum.net (as copied from alfjr.com). On several occasions in the exhortation, the author claims that the attack is imminent ("the train of death is on its way... nothing will stop its riders") and that only an order from their commander is needed before the attack is carried out. Two pictures of bin Laden were added to the exhortation, one with an image of the World Trade Center in flames, hinting, possibly, to an Al-Qa'ida connection. The following is the main part of the exhortation:
After clicking the link and reading the whole article, make your own decision regarding the propriety of panic.

I panic when I see millions of Americans caught in the down-cycle that this "war fever" causes. Many people who were about to retire are now unable to do so.
I also panic when I go to the largest shopping mall in my area and do not see the plethora of shoppers that used to inhabit it. If they have any money, people are unwilling to spend it in an atmosphere of uncertainty.
I panic, too, when I remember that the American people did not elect Dubya as their president. He was instead appointed by his Pop's Supreme Court cronies.
I panic, too, when I remember that the Bushes and the Cheneys have made a mint in "oil money" and are now scavaging the planet for more.
I panic most of all when I think of body bags filled with casualties from both the U.S., its Allies, and also those from Iraq.
Yes, folks, it is time to panic . . .

Timber.
You know somehow I get the feeling those folks don't like us. Probably just my anti-Islamic prejudices though. Maybe some of the terrorists haven't been watching the television coverage that proves only the Bush Administration and a few of us blood-thirsty baby killers are still willing to oppose their dreams of an Islamic World. LOL
More seriously, I fully expect an attack is going to be made but predicting where and when is beyond our capability. The cited pronouncement says around ten days, if accurate that would be about March 9th - near the end of what I take to be the optimal time for attack. I suppose this could be an indication that some terrorists might want to stage their operation as a diversion to the Iraq campaign. We are now down to days, if my estimates are correct. After 09MAR, the window closes pretty rapidly and, I think anything after the end of March should be regarded with extreme caution. Can Saddam bluff his way that long? Time will tell.
NO REASON TO PANIC, THE SKY ISN'T GOING TO FALL.

OK, so I'm freaked out. Seriously. I will be on a plane March 9th, with sozlet and hubby.
I read this about an hour ago, said, "eh, don't let it get to you." It's getting to me. I don't like it.
Remedy?

Don't let the bad guys win. Continue enjoying life and do not worry. Worrying will not make you any safer just more uncomfortable.

As I type, broadcast media indicates "The Terror Alert Level" is about to be lowered. If in fact that is the case, then I doubt there is much to "The Warning" I posted earlier. Not too surprising, really, the website I lifted it from is given to a bit of hysteria.
I would say panic is not presently warranted. As for Mar9, Soz, that's "In the Window" for the start of The War, but I seriously doubt you will be in much danger on a domestic commercial airflight. You'll be at greater risk while in traffic driving to the airport, and from fellow drivers, not from terrorists. On the otherhand, security issues around that time would probably make it a good idea to minimize carry-on luggage and to show up at the airport at least a couple hours pre-flight.

Also, "about 10 days" from when it was made on the 24th is actually March 6th. So if that is accurate, it would likely happen before, rather than during.
Ugh. Going to see my parents, and the last plane trip that we tried was canceled -- our reservations were September 17th, 2001.

I believe, from reading the rant, that any action which might transpire, would focus on Oz, and have to do with The Americas Cup sailing race. Things like this are iffy at best, but I suspect security surrounding the event is tighter than a drumhead, making any attack a difficult proposition. I wouldn't worry too much about it, even if I were in or headed for Oz.
Enjoy the trip.

don't let anything stop you, soz. hamburger and wife travelled to Vienna almost immediately after 9/11. they're booked for a trip to hamburg and berlin 03/17. i continue to be proud of them for their 'those fools aren't stopping us from living our lives' attitude.
we've all got to keep on keeping on. fear and anxiety is what the 'bad guys' always bank on. i don't plan to give them anything to put in their account.

The reason the alert was dropped to yellow is because those dangerous Muslim fundamentalists have ended their strange and foreign Hadj. And we don't feel we have much to fear from our own fundamentalists. I think we may be wrong.

Yesterday's (2/26) Morning Edition (NPR) had a segment on the US evangelicals, Bush, and the war which is worth listening to -- audio now available online.

In accordance with the lowering of the threat level from orange to yellow, we're officially lowering the panic index to chartreuse-- labored breathing, quiet mutters and paranoid rantings on the internet.

Oh, it's chartreuse! Well in that case, I'll go ahead, and just huddle in a semi-fetal position while twisting my hair into little tight dreads and humming. Thanks!
(Finally getting over it.)

Since we've dropped to yellow, I'm relying on scotch tape and saran wrap.
