Yiddish (in German Jiddish) is a Germanic language:

Germanic > West German > Old High German > German/Yiddish (on the same branch in the language tree).

(That's why out of the five full chairs in Yiddish two are situated at German universities.)

Haha, Matzah is also called jewish Penicillin

CalamityJane - Nope, you have that all wrong. It's the SOUP, not the matzoh, that is the "penicillin". The matzoh ball is what gives you strength, after the soup does its work! Laughing

Alan King used to do this bit about chicken soup and its relationship to penicillin. Apparently, Campbell's Manhandler's, according to King, does not qualify. In order to be truly therapeutic, the soup has to be made, from scratch, by your mother, who hovers lovingly around your sickbed.

Hehe, that's right Phoenix, it's the soup.

My jewish neighbor made chicken soup from scratch for me once when I was sick. My mother doesn't live close by
so she took me under her wings.
