My father's illness

Reply Wed 1 Dec, 2004 06:15 am
Hi, how are you doing ?.I know that I should be more often here, but I am not available for myself these days!.Some of you guys know about my father's situation. Now, he is ill, and I don't know what to do.I took him many times to the doctor, and the old story of giving injections, tablets, etc .

He has fever, which comes and goes.He feels cold most of the time, though it's quite warm in his room.

If you have anything to say, I'll be happy to hear from .

THANKS Smile

navigator- I am sorry to hear that your father is going through such a bad time. It must be very hard on you to see your dad so sick. It is very frustrating to watch someone that you love become ill, and feel helpless to do anything about it.

If you want to ventilate, please do so on A2K. We have a lot of caring people her, and many have gone through similar experiences as you. Going through something like this is much easier when you know that you are not alone.

So keep writing, and let us know how your dad, and YOU, are doing!

THANKS Phoenix. You are so nice Smile .I'm not that sad or frustrated, because I know that things like these happen. One must accept his reality, and believe in himself

I really love my father and family. He is a good man, loving person. He is now 82 , and hemiplegia. He always say that we must help the others, because there are alot of things we can do to make life tastes better.

My heart goes out to you navigator.
Caring for elderly parents is very disheartening.
For so many years they have been the pillar
of our lifes and seeing them weak and needy is emotionally
draining to us.

Often they get pushed off into retirement or convalescene
homes so someone else can take care of them.

I commend you for taking on this task and help your
father in his illness, as for he has taught you to be
a good and loving person as well.

All the best to you and your father navigator Smile

Navigator--

I admire the way you translated your father's words:

Quote:
...there are alot of things we can do to make life taste better.

Thanks to you and your family, your father is dying with dignity.

Hi again, thanks everybody, and thanks Noddy.Dad is getting better, I see him so.He is praying all the time.I sleep with him every night.

The usual things; giving him food, giving him bath, and cleaning him.At least, I'm happy that I can see him smiling. It's difficult to understand what he is telling, but mother knows exactly what he wants, or what he says.

I think, she is in love with him Smile

Thank everybody, I feel great

I stayed up last night with him.I had to put him in the right position everytime he turned in his sleeping.Sometimes, he will just fall in his right side, and then can't move back. These moves give me a hard time. He's been sufering from a bad diarrhea lately, but now he seems to be fine.Fever comes and go as I said.I was exhausted going to work that day.I forgot to say that he only eat soft food, sometimes fish.He does different and strange things in unexpected time; early morning, midnight. For instance, he would call me and say that he is sorry if he did anything wrong to me !.

wish me luck

Thanks Noddy. He is sick again, and his eyes look cloudy. He can't see well with the right one.Is this has anything to do with hemiplegia, because he can't move his right side body.Fever, headache, cloudy eyes, redness in the right one as I said.I will take him downtown tomorrow to a specialist, but I'm not sure if he can manage to go. Sad

I'd guess that all the damage on the right side might be stroke-related--but I'm not a medical professional and that is only a guess.

Does your father want to see the specialist? Or does he want a quiet life right now?

Hi everybody, actually my father doesn't mind to go or to stay. You are right Noddy about the stroke thing. That was four years ago when my middle brother had an accident , got paraplegia. Then, father had the stroke. He loves us that couldn't bear the shock.

Don't worry about me.I'm cool Cool

Writing about it does have a calming effect, Navigator. I, myself, know that. For you and for your dad:

Often the burden is shifted,
The light dimly fails and goes
Out.

But then there is someone
or something,

That circles around all our doubt
And quietly whispers and comforts,
Helping us to become strong,
Perhaps it's a son or a daughter,
Perhaps it's just poetry or song.

The health centre wasn't that helpful. I only took hime to the aurist, who gave my earsdrops. He said that it was some kind of infection or inflammation in both ears.He said this propably due to the fever. So, I had to take him to a private clinic. The doctor said that it was the fever who caused the infection of the ear, and also affected his left eye.So, he gave me another drops but for the eyes.Gave dad two injections, and tablets. When I went back home, I had difficulty with the tablets that couldn't swallow. He always throw them Sad .Now, he is on drops only.Sight is ok, but hearing I'm not sure.

Doctor said that this could happen often, taking in mind he is an old man.One thing, he sleeps less hours than before, say strange things as I said.

Dying is a natural process. Frequently it is more difficult for the caretaker than for the elderly. Our thoughts are with you.

Something came up that I was a fraid of.Today, while bathing him he was moaning abit.I asked him- I have to raise my voice alittle- what's up?.He said that his lower back is aching him, causing pain. But that only started this day as I understood from him.I think this is because his non-stop movement; you would always find him in his weak side Sad .

This means that his back is always not straight. What should I do ?.Maybe there is something wrong in his lower back.

Sorry for disturbing.
