Kerry's $$ is from his wife's fortune. No poor person can run for president today and stand a chance of winning.

By the way, $600 million is lots of money, but there are richer Americans.

By the WAY>>>>did anyone notice, that William Clinton now supports Bush's stand on Iraq!

While I agree with the spirit of Steissd's warning I think it's fair to point out that ad hominem attacks are just as destructive to discussion when they concern people outside of A2K -- like Kerry. Persistent frivolous personal attacks on politicians, their spouses, artists, actors -- anyone in public life with whom one disagrees -- tend to narrow and finally destroy the conversation itself, in the same way that personal attacks on fellow discussion members do. Vide Abuzz. After a season in that atmosphere, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the civility of these discussions. Many thanks to moderators and other seasoned members who continue to remind us how destructive all ad hominem smears are to discussion!

Every time it is pointed out what a lousy job the president and his administration is doing that to the die hard republicans is deemed an insult. They always counter with Clinton did this or that. Stop using Clinton as an excuse for Georgie's failings. He is after all the president and has been for the last two disastrous years.

Hey -- I'm just as tired of hearing about the "chimp" and Laura's "dowdiness," neither of which adds a dang thing to the argument that we have a president responsible for breathtakingly dangerous policies. Doesn't it make more sense to concentrate on whether, if Kerry were president, we'd have put the whole world in a state of "orange alert?" Wouldn't it make more sense to discuss Kerry's record as a public servant, his potential as a leader, rather than his wife's money and/or his precise ethnicity? Maybe a serious analysis of Kerry's ability to serve our interests be threatening to those who'd prefer that we didn't measure their candidate by the same standards!

As I said before, if Kerry didn't have all his wife's pickle money, he'd have to settle for playng "second fiddle" in the Massachusetts.

Hears to the Pickle! Razz

It was a pleasure and a sure sign of things to come, when Mitt Romney beat out the Dem, Shannon O'Brien for Gov. Just a sign of things to come for the Dems ( including Kerry) in Massachusetts.

The day will come when we finally have two Republican Senators from Massachusetts. Good bye to Kerry and Kennedy. Very Happy

As far as Kerry's smarts, a smart politician would have marched himself over to the homeless Vets shelter and deposted a check for $25,000 for the light bill. He's supposed to be the Senator from Massachusetts, why doesn't act like he cares about our citizens, especially our homeless ones?

It does not matter whether Mr. Kerry is Irish, Chinese, Jew or Polynesian. It does not matter either what are his income sources, if these are legal, and the taxes are paid. The main issue is as follows: is his political program in favor of the USA or not? IMHO, at least.

That's it precisely, steissd. Or at least for several of us, that is what matters.

Unfortunately, that's not the fate of politics in the USA. Why no women as President? Why no Blacks as President?

Pure hearts lead where?

By the way, had it not been for the Democratic machine and all of its
tricks of the trade, JFK would not have been president. The fact that Kennedy's father, the former bootlegger was a multi-millionaire was also an advantage, to say the least.

Does a poor person have any chance today of being President?

Kerry has no program for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Why would he have one for the USA? Very Happy

If Kerry can't get the lights turned on at the homeless Vet's shelter, what could he ever accomplish on a national level? NOTHING~

You keep railing about Heinz and his wife's money. Meanwhile you revere that rich fop in the white house. His presidency was bought and paid for just as every other "achievement " in his life was.

Of course not, New Haven. But I believe we're comparing prospective presidential candidates here. I thought I'd start with a pretty stark difference between Kerry and his prospective Republican opponent!
